As brother and sister on a little trip to the Catlins we weren’t wanting much but what we got was even less!|On arriving we found a note telling us to ring the host. |The phone didn’t work!|Free internet?????|Beds and flat soft mattresses that should of been got rid of 20 years back.|Music- well there was a sad little black box that didn’t work.|No tea bags|No sugar|And till the host arrived about 9pm (wondering why no one had called him) we’d only had hot water to drink.|We managed to see the funny side of it and sort of got some sleep.|Really if you want a blast from the past of a sad little kiwi batch, this is the place to go.|Oh and there is no cellphone reception-...

We originally simply wanted to rent kayaks and we discovered that Waikawa lodge had some for free, the price of the room being the same as renting the kayaks...the decision was quickly made. We then we amazed by the incredible location (200m from Charlotte Sound), by the cleanliness ( we thought it just opened) and by how friendly and helpful the owners are and every facilities you can hope for ( big kitchen area, communal area, video/Tv room and even a spa/jacuzzi.. Fine accommodation with good heater and comfortable bed. The checkin is very informal. When you arrive go in and call the number next to the phone to checkin. No WiFi or Spark cell coverage for voice or data. Just gotta enjoy the area and watching for penguins on...
