We spent 10 days in Channel view hotel and it was a good experience. Although the first impression was lacking, they made up for it. It has been recently renovated so it looks new and smells good. From the lobby to the rooms, they have done a good job. The men at the front desk are very pleasant - Emmanuel, Jonathan, David and (I forgot his name). The young Lady needs to do better - she was the first person I met. The shift supervisor, female Manager(s), all were very warm and pleasant. We felt at home and will be back.
We need to have a service attitude; you don't keep a potential customer waiting because you are entering whatever in your computer in the middle of the day. My impression of the young Lady at the front desk did not improve much in 10 days.
It is an expensive hotel for Calabar @ NGN 80K per night for their least expensive room considering comparable hotels in the area are NGN 40K per night. The selling factor for me was that I could breath - I did not have allergies. Some of the other hotels smell bad - from the lobby to the rooms, elevator included. My nose picks up mold right away.
We had two rooms on each 5 day stay during a 12 day period. The rooms are decent sizes with a sitting area and nice bathrooms. I happened to look out the window of room 210 the day before I checked out and was appaled at how bad it looked. I am hoping they clean it and fix the net. I have photos but I am choosing not to share only the bad photos since I forgot to take photos of the good part. Considering how long I was staying, I asked for a discount and the response was to remove my complimentary breakfast and take NGN 4K off my daily rate, dissapointing! A better response would have been a polite, no.
Room service fee was NGN 500 for 8 days. We got a call on Day 9 to select our meal for complimentary breakfast and was told room service had been increased to NGN 1500 - typical naija behavior.
I enjoyed my stay and...
Read moreI spent a night here in August. It was nice but...||||THE GOOD: nice large rooms, with a nice bathroom and beddings. Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant and good was good but a tad expensive. The whole facade is aging and in dire need of some repainting. But otherwise its okay. There is an ATM on-premise as well as some small shops. The overall location is nice and quiet.||||THE BAD.||Wifi. Bad. Very poor. ||The rooms are a bit expensive as well, for Calabar standards. Also, the hotel suffered from too many power outages; one would expect a hotel of this class to have an inverter or such backup system in place!||||In summary, Channel View is a nice hotel in a good location. I did not encounter much noise but then again i spent only one night.||||I did not use the pool or other facility so i cannot comment on those.||||- So will i recommend it? Yes if you dont need Wi-Fi.... if you do,...
Read moreI mostly use the gym here. Last time I was in the rooms should be about three years ago but I wasn’t impressed with the maintenance culture which is a general problem with all Nigerian hotels. The tap in the females wash room of the pool is falling off and besides those few problems, the facility has managed to stay relevant. It is a fairly good hotel to stay in calabar. It’s centrally located in a safe area and you can easily get transportation around from here. Otherwise the management needs to look into the little details. Also, the use of laptops around the gym waiting area or pool waiting area is banned /not allowed. There’s an atm on site and a bakery shop with very interesting looking pastries. Update - extensive reconstruction work and maintainance is ongoing at this hotel and facilities are being upgraded....
