Review of Room 503 and Room 504:
I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying in Room 503 and Room 504 at the Oakland Hotel. Our three days stay was filled with numerous disappointments and frustrations, and I feel it is necessary to share my experience.
To begin with, cleanliness was a major concern in both rooms. The floors, bed sheets, and pillowcases were all dirty upon our arrival. It was necessary for us to contact the reception to have the bed sheets and one of the pillowcases changed. This lack of attention to cleanliness set a disappointing tone for our stay.
Furthermore, the room floors needed to be mopped, as they were dirty as well. However, when the cleaners came to address the issue, they used dirty water from another room, which was unacceptable. They made no effort to obtain clean water to properly clean our room, showing a disregard for basic hygiene standards.
In addition to cleanliness issues, there were problems with the water facilities. The toilet flusher in both rooms lacked sufficient power to properly flush, and unfortunately, the hotel management did not provide a Toilet brush or plunger as an alternative solution. This oversight made it challenging to maintain proper sanitation. Additionally, water spilled from both the shower and the bathroom sink, further contributing to a lack of cleanliness. Despite one of the hotel porters noticing the water on the bathroom floor, they failed to take any action, which is simply unacceptable.
Moreover, both rooms suffered from a mold infestation. Every page of the room service menu was covered in mold, which is a clear indication of poor cleanliness and maintenance within the hotel. The presence of mold poses health risks and should never be allowed in any accommodation.
Another issue that added to our frustrations was the malfunctioning magnetic cards or contactless smart cards used for room access. We experienced repeated difficulties with these cards, resulting in being locked out of Room 503 on four separate occasions. Even after they changed the batteries in the keys, the problem persisted. It is worth noting that one of the porters attempted to convince me that the keys were functioning normally, despite spending a considerable amount of time unsuccessfully attempting to unlock the door himself. This lack of acknowledgement and assistance was highly unprofessional.
Additionally, it is important to mention that all the light sockets in both rooms were malfunctioning. This created an unpleasant and inconvenient environment, as we were unable to have proper lighting during our stay. Functional lighting is a basic necessity that should be maintained in a hotel.
Lastly, the beds in both Room 503 and Room 504 were inadequate for taller individuals. When lying on the beds, our legs extended beyond the edge, causing discomfort throughout the night. This lack of consideration for guests of varying heights is a notable oversight.
Overall, my experience in Room 503 and Room 504 at the Oakland Hotel was filled with numerous disappointments. From the lack of cleanliness to the malfunctioning room keys and other issues, it is clear that the hotel management needs to address these concerns promptly and take steps to improve their facilities...

Read moreThis is a new and modern hotel. Let me be fair, the rooms are large, well maintained and clean, and furnished to a contemporary standard of design, with a fridge, large wardrobe, desk and plenty of drawer space - all positive in terms of facilities and surroundings. My only complaints would be the very hard mattress, and the lack of a safe, but otherwise the rooms are of an excellent standard. The bathroom was also clean and contemporary, with a large shower cubicle, but supplied toiletries were a bit of a hit or a miss. Staff at reception, in the restaurant, and housekeeping, are all very pleasant and helpful. There is internet, but it has a limit of 200Mb, is painfully slow, and is an antiquated method of supplied codes for username and password that you have to enter time and time again, and after every power cut. Not exactly business friendly. And then there is breakfast..... Being phoned at 10.30pm and at 6.30am to advise that there is a buffet breakfast, or to ask what you want for breakfast, is an unnecessary intrusion. When breakfast is a buffet, you can have orange juice and milk for coffee, but not bacon. When there is no buffet, you have to choose from the menu, and can have bacon, but not orange juice! You are also forbidden from having more than one egg dish even if you order nothing else off the menu (?!), there's only powder milk for coffee, and you can have butter but not jam. Once you have ordered, be prepared to wait 20 - 25 minutes for your food to arrive (on a clingfilm covered plate), and don't be surprised if the order is wrong when it arrives, or served to another guest. 'Jam tomorrow, but never today' sums up breakfast at Oaklands. Having watched several unhappy guests walk out of the restaurant, it is clear that this area the business needs addressed - take a visit to, and learn from, an international and/or business hotel that gives their guests...
