Expectations were high; A cross country upscale hotel for people liking wine. ||Received an SMS two days before arrival, which I looked at one day before to learn that booking for the restaurants were recommended. It was frustrating to then learn that the best restaurant - Slagteriet - was fully booked both evenings! ||We arrived early making it possible to ski before checking in. After checking in, we were surprised that there was no sauna and no places to dry our humid skiing clothes and boots. Further, there were almost no space for our dry clothes in the room and no space to place the huge pillows outside the bed, so they went on the floor. ||We had booked table at the hotel's restaurant but our booking was unfortunately lost. However, we got at table in the darkest place in the restaurant. After bringing more table lamps, I was able to see my wife :-) The wine list looked excellent and we asked for advice. However, the sommerlier was not at work (Saturday 28 December) and the friendly staff were not able to render any advice of value. Fortunately, a friend of mine is owner and sommerlier at a Michelin star restaurant and he advised which Chassagne-Montrachet to pick. He also noted that the wine was very reasonably priced. The bottle was the best we have tasted in 2024. ||After the dinner we went to the bar and were so lucky that the table in front of the fire place was free. The room was otherwise quite chilly and many guests used blankets to keep warm. The position in front of the fire place felt ideal until some door elsewhere in the hotel was opened and the draft from the chimney was reversed leaving us in a draft of ashes from the fire place.||We woke up too early by the noise of a barking dog which kept barking. Nobody seemed to care. The breakfast buffet and coffee was good. The view in daylight from the restaurant is disturbed by a parking lot!||The second evening, we were so lucky to get a table at Slakteriet. The 10 course menu was a great experience and the enthusiastic staff were aiming for a Michelin star, which they deserve. We enjoyed every...
Read moreFor several years, Pellestova has been a favourite for hiking and nordic skiing. By 2024, the hotels has undergone a very successful refurbishment. All rooms are decorated in "mountain lodge style" (wood, slate etc.), the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms also new with floor heating and amenities from Rituals (soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner). There is a well equipped mini-bar and TV. Breakfast is plentyful; a cooked breakfast is being served upon request, and there is also a traditional nordic buffet with ham, salmon, cheese, croissants, fruit, etc. The hotel offers three restaurants covering all needs: A pizzeria serving lovely artisan pizza, a restaurant serving modern french-norwegian cuisine and the new "Slakteriet", an exclusive restaurant in the culinary landscape of new nordic cuisine. The latter is seating aprx 30 guests each night, serving ca. 12 dishes focusing on game and locally sourced produce. The hotel wine cellar is to die for, offering Échezeaux, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Gevrey-Chambertin, and also less expensive...
Read moreWe were a group of 14 friends who skied from Sjusjøen to Pellestova Hotell January 2019. After a long ski trip it was very nice to come to the hotell where we could change into dry clothes. The hotel had managed a room where we could change and gave us towels if needed at no cost. After a quick pizza bite (made from real pizza ovens) in the cafeteria zone we moved up to the hotell bar. Just like you want a mountain hotel to be. Cozy, fireplace running and nice soft sofas to sit in. We were going to eat a four course dinner later in the evening and the waitress took orders for wine early so that they could be aired sufficient before dinner. The hotel has a vast wine cellar with top producers especially from Europe with dept from Bordeaux and Burgundy at ok prizes (we’re still in norway). Dinner was served flawlessly for all 14 guests with a smile! Great food and good service. After dinner the hotel even arranged a taxi for the whole group to be transported down to Lillehammer. Thanks for the...
