Stunning location with great access to a variety of top tier fjord and mountain areas. Awesome sunsets. I strongly encourage day trips to surrounding areas even though this place is pretty enough to stay at for days. Rooms are well appointed and clean. We really enjoyed the hot tub. Incredible service - loved getting to talk to Ole (an owner who’s deeply involved in the daily operations of the hotel) and Anna (the French sommelier) in particular. Our stay was made much better by our efforts to get to know them and ask for anything we needed. All the other staff we encountered, particularly the one who served breakfast and the one who helped Anna serve dinner, were quite friendly and helpful as well. Table service breakfast the second and third morning (i think because less people were staying in the hotel) was definitely a step up from buffet style the first morning. Breakfast was of high quality and had good variety overall. There did seem to be a lot of food waste in the morning as they put out cured meats, cheeses, and raw vegetables that we never ate all of. Might be nice to ask what people are actually interested in having. Dinner was exceptionally creative and delicious. The drinks were well done particularly the rosé, chablis, and the châteauneuf-du-Pape in the wine pairings and the in house cider and in house Viking liquor. It was nice to have electric car chargers on site. Was able to communicate ahead of...
Read moreI am writing this review from my balcony overlooking some of the beautiful snow covered peaks of the most northern part of the breathtaking western fjords of norway to tell you about an Incredible Hotel that I would list as a must do for Scandanavia.||The hotel only has 14 rooms and suites and the owner Christine made us feel like this was our own private mountain house with a staff of help. Our room was 85 square meters (914 Square feet) OVERLOOKING THIS BEAUTIFUL VISTA WHERE WE SAW THE SUN SET AT 11:30 PM . The room has all new modern furniture (it was completed in 2018}. We arrived late and went down for the 8 Pm dinner which was a three course delicious gourmet dinner prepared by a contest winning chef who had worke in Michelin starred restaurants. Christine asked us what time we wanted breakfast and when we went down the next morning the entire buffet like spread was on our table to enjoy. The second night the dinner was in their authentic viking house with a five course tasting menu. ||The hotel is also centrally located for the main outstanding sights of the area: 1 hour from Alesund, 1 hour from Geirenger and Eagle road and 1/2 hour from The Trolls ladder drive. Thank you Christine for an...
Read moreCovid forced us to yet another domestic holiday trip in Norway. We wanted to visit Ålesund and the incredible mountain and fjord region of Sunnmøre. Being rather late making reservations most of the well renowned hotels were either incredibly expensive or fully booked. We found Blåtind Boutique hotel in Stordal by coincident and decided to check it out for two nights as it is centrally located for visits to both Ålesund and Geiranger by car. This hotel is an absolute gem. It really deserves both a higher rating and a lot more visits. They only have 14 rooms/suites and 8 apartments and is run by Ole Vikernes, his family and a super friendly staff. We tried their viking-house dinner one day and was absolutely blown away. We never expected to find food of such magnificent quality at this hotel. Their Cook, Eddie, made a fantastisk three course dinner from local ingredients. The menu varies from day to day and their french sommelier, Anna, pairs Eddie's food expertly to very nice wines. The rooms are spacious and are equipped with superb beds with super comfy douvets and pillows. I absolutely recommend this hotel. It is much more value for money than some of the larger and more renown hotels...
