This hotel is not that easy to find but there is a reward in the location with fantastic views over the fjord.||We didn't get off to the best start as there was a scruffy note sellotaped to the door of reception written in Norwegian which presumably said 'Not here. Please call mobile...'. Which we rang and eventually someone came out of one of the rooms and let us in. The check in was a bit of a shambles but we were shown to and given the choice of a number of rooms on the upper floor. The room was great. Lovely shower with underfloor heating. And the views were special.||Dinner was an utter disaster and bordering on Fawlty Towers. I ordered a shrimp cocktail and after 10 minutes was told they were out of shrimps so I chose not to have starter. When I was in the bathroom, they had brought a salad as an alternative, which I hadn't ordered and didn't want but wouldn't charge for. My wife had her starter and main course, which she enjoyed. My main (and only course) was a lasagna. It took nearly two hours to arrive. One hour and fifty minutes to be precise. I stayed because I was enjoying the torment and the embarrassment as they tried to serve other people knowing I was still waiting. When it did arrive, it was actually two small portions of lasagna, one meat and one vegetarian both of which were practically inedible. Very disappointing. The breakfast was also average.||My wife loved the hotel and we both loved the views but the kitchen...
Read moreThis is a haven of peace and quiet... but it's very quirky and wouldn't be everyone's idea of a good hotel. Its turfed roofs blend in with the countryside and it is pretty much in the middle of nowhere... and beside the Sognefjord. Nothing to complain about in the scenery and setting.||||The rooms are definitely on the quirky side... pretend log cabin style, but the "logs" are split pine hammered on as an after thought. The bathroom is basic, and we didn't try the shower because it didn't look up to much. The beds were very comfortable, and an added bonus was that we could walk out to our own private terrace area, and from there straight down to the fjord about ten metres away. ||||The food was not really up to much at all... half of the items on the menu were not available... we were told that this was a "new" menu and had been printed before all the food had been ordered. Seemed a bit inconceivable. We ate indoors, and were not offered a seat on the outdoor terrace, even at breakfast which was very sunny. This was odd, as it looked rather pleasant. ||||I've given it 4 points just because it is very very peaceful, otherwise it would probably...
Read moreThe key selling point behind this hotel is its breathtaking views of the fjord. Do get the rooms that look out onto the water and you will be rewarded with kncredible sunrise, sunset and all days views accompanying varied colours and tones.
Activities are limited but they do have a fun driving range that lets you club golf balls into the fjord. 20balls go for 100NOK which is not cheap, but clubs (in poor condition) are provided.
Facilities are clean organised but relatively basic. Rooms boast of a TV, and beds are clean and comfy. Spacious parking allows you to almost drive right up to your room.
Service however was excellent with friendly, attentive, english speaking staff.
On Sundays the restaurant scales down with limited dining options, and the nearby supermarkets are all closed. So do stock up/come prepared.
One challenge is coming from the ferry, the drive through the tunnel can be quite a task as it is narrow and very dark. So do come only if you are a...
