We spent a weekend at this cosy house in early summer. Such a great place to get away! The old building itself is beautiful, and after climbing the stairs to enter it we were amazed by the decor; truly like stepping back in time in the best way! The ceilings are high, and the view from every window is spectacular!||There’s a kitchen (fully equipped with heatplate and fridge, no running water), a separate bedroom with twin beds, and a lovely sitting room with a dining table, sitting area and a queen size bed (beautiful and antique, but also comfortable). ||As mentioned, there’s no running water in the house, so the washroom/bathroom/shower is in the main house just across the courtyard with a private entrance. ||||The surroundings are beautiful, we spent the day hiking in the woods and had a swim in the nearby lake. In the evening we had a barbeque (there is an outside dining area just outside the house with a a grill at guest’s disposal). ||||The host is very accommodating and easy going, we felt comfortable and welcomed from start to end of our stay! Thank you, Anne!||||Truly a unique experience, could not...

My boyfriend and I spent a few days enjoying the most authentic side of Norway at Årestua cabin, and the stay was incredible. The cabin’s host Anne was very attentive at all times: we arrived late at night and everything was already prepared and perfectly warmed to make us feel comfortable.

She kindly gave us a tour of the different cabins on the property and explained, in a detailed and vivid way, both the history of the cabin and the many stories connected to it. It was truly fascinating to spend quality time in such an important place for Norway’s history.

The space was fully equipped, with every detail carefully thought out to ensure our comfort. The main room preserves every original piece of furniture and element, all beautifully restored. In addition, the newer rooms are built with the same care and attention to detail, making you feel part of the stunning natural surroundings.

We completed the experience with the sauna ritual and a dip in the lake, which we highly recommend. Without a doubt, we will be back to enjoy this experience again.

A perfect 10 out...

Such a wonderful experience! We stayed at "stabburet", which is the old storehouse for food. It is situated with a view both from the living room and outside that is absolutely breathtaking. The rooms are spacious with a double bed in the living room and a bedroom with two twin beds. There is no water, but there is water, toilet and a shower by a neighbouring house. ||||A few minute drive away is a lake where it's possible to swim and on the way we meet some very friendly sheep and the cutest newborn lambs ever. ||||Anne as a host is super accommodating, friendly and outgoing. She helped us with everything we needed during our stay. |||| Would...

Just spent the most amazing weekend at Bolkesjo Gaard with my partner and friends, and it truly felt like stepping into a hidden gem. Everything about the stay was unforgettable — the cozy cabin, the beautiful surroundings, the rich history, and the warm hospitality of the hosts. The hiking trails nearby were just the right mix of easy and rewarding, with stunning viewpoints along the way. And of course, we couldn’t leave without experiencing the sauna followed by a refreshing dip in the lake — absolutely worth it! If you're looking for a peaceful escape in nature, this place is a must!

We spent 2 days at Anne's truly incredible place. We felt lucky to have discovered it the moment we arrived and we had such a warm welcome. Anne arranged for an arrival meal for our group of 18 and the following day gave us a cultural tour of the farm, buildings and rich history. The space was ideal for us, the views were spectacular, the rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. We will certainly be returning next year and can't wait to discover more of the area. Thank you for a wonderful experience Anne.
