Alas, I cannot give zero stars. The Røros Hotell STOLE money from my credit card without providing anything.
I had booked a room here for one night. The day before, I was in another place in Norway about 260 km. from Røros. During the evening of that day, nothing indicated what would happen that night : Unexpected, heavy and unusually early snowfall in those regions of Norway I was staying in and would have to drive through.
So, together with the very helpful receptionist of the hotel I stayed in, I called the Røros Hotell to check if I could cancel the room because of the hazardous circumstances on the road. At first, it seemed not to be a problem because I booked directly with the hotel. So they literally said to us.
During my breakfast, about 10 minutes after that call, I was called by the Røros Hotell. To my surprise, they now said that I had to pay for the room!!! The hotel wasn't fully booked at all, they didn't provide any service, the road conditions were dangerous but they still wanted free money without working for it.
So, again I had to bother the receptionist of my hotel to call their colleagues and they negotiated a cancellation fine of 50%. Both hotels belong to the same group...
So,the Røros Hotell stole 825 NOK from my credit card for doing nothing. They rather had me to risk my safety and maybe life on the roads instead of letting loose the cancellation conditions for once regarding the circumstances.
The Røros Hotell management is just a gang of thieves lacking any common sense. A hotel that values big profit over safety will probably break more rules but I will never consider to check that myself.
Please, do Norway and other people a favour and go bankrupt with your kind of "service" before accidents...
Read moreDon’t trust Apple Maps to bring you to this hotel from the train station!!! Our half-mile hike was up hill the entire way and included a steep climb across a grassy area with a well-worn path clearly made by other iPhone users!!!||Now that I got that warning out of the way, let me tell you that this hotel is a wonderful value, with everything a family, (or a pair of women traveling together in our case) needs for a restful vacation. The views of Roros, meandering down the hillside, are lovely. There is a pool, and a playground, a restaurant and a lobby bar in addition to thecomfortable, quiet rooms. In fact, after our intense pre-check-in workout, I requested a room close to the front, and was given a first-floor room, which I usually object to. But too tired to protest, I found the large room was quiet and cozy, with plenty of space to sit and relax. ||We ate dinner in the lobby bar by accident, but it was still good! The restaurant is down the hallway to the left of the sign that says “restaurant”, which is we didn’t figure out until we went looking for breakfast the next morning. The breakfast is the full Norwegian breakfast we’ve come to expect with lots of tasty options to choose from and more than enough to feast! The staff are all very kind and helpful. We only stayed one night, but they were very happy to store our luggage for us so we could explore the town before our afternoon train. Would gladly return for...
Read moreOur night in Hotel Roros was a real treat. Easy to find on the outskirts of town with lots of free parking. The location is good, just a 10-min walk down the hill to the main streets, cafés, museums, etc. It’s a huge hotel with lots of guests and families, a little busy at times, but very quiet back where the rooms are. Our room was excellent – average size, bright, airy, with excellent sunset views over the valley. We really loved this aspect! The Wifi and TV worked very well – just wish we would’ve had a mini fridge to keep our drinks cold. That was really our only complaint, everything else was really good. We made use of the gym downstairs by the pool. There are a few good cardio machines in the foyer by the pool, but the weight room is tiny, really only room for 2 or 3 people in there. There is a bench press (free weights), a set of dumbbells, a lat pull-down, and a dual cable multigym. Everything was good quality and you could get complete upper body workouts with the equipment present. A bigger facility would be so much nicer! The breakfast buffet was amazing – a huge variety of hot and cold dishes. So much to choose from! It was busy, but still plenty of room to sit and enjoy the breakfast. Overall we had an amazing stay and would definitely recommend this place to...
