Ultimate trek, the best way to enjoy it is camping, if not start very early by 7 am and end up by 7 pm by taking rest and taking pics. It's advisable for kids as well but if you wanna target for the end point then camping is the best advice otherwise go how much they can enjoy. Plan a minimum 5 km trek one way, so that you will get a nice view of the lake to satisfy the trip if you cannot go for a 10 km trek one way. Nothing is available after parking p2, carrying good stuff, light weight, water we can drink from the lakes on the mountain, carrying one litre is sufficient till you get water points. Very relaxed and happy after the trek.
There are three parking slots for the trek to start. P3 is the nearest parking lot to start the trek, 20 km from there, two way, p3 is almost full maximum time, you need to book in advance in trolltunga trek online site, if p3 is not available then plan p2, if you go early you will get slot without advance booking, from here to p3 you will have bus service to p3, ticket price around 10 euros, advisable to take shuttle bus because the path is very step and you will be exhausted and trek will spoil. P2 to P3 is just 3 km but a very steep path. Check the shuttle bus timings to catch the return bus. The last bus is at 7 or 7:30 pm. Parking P1 is easy to get and accessible from odda city. Note if your parking at p1 or p2 , last shuttle bus you need to remember otherwise once you complete your trek you need to walk 6 more kms to reach p1. From my experience it's Very difficult to walk after the trek...
Read moreI can only compare Trolltunga Camping (TC) to US campsites, so the things that made a difference to me may be standard in Norway. Staff: all staff I encountered spoke English, and some also spoke other European languages. They were often busy, but always friendly and helpful. I had a rental bike issue (1500 kr) and Susana was very kind to me to make it right. Carlos was very warm and had great hike suggestions. Everyone was just pleasant and accommodating. Location: away from town which was a little annoying after long days of hiking without a car. There is a bus system, however. Trolltunga shuttles stop right in front, which is a huge plus, especially when your feet are done after. It's also only 5k from Buarbreen glacier and it's a pleasant walk there. There's a beautiful lake on the property with many benches. Rooms: I stayed in the cabin and it was as advertised. It's going to be a little louder bc it's a camp ground, but it never got loud. Be advised there is a cleaning fee (250 kroner). It's not luxurious or spacious, but it's a camp ground so it met my expectations. It feels expensive as heck when you consider US campgrounds, but I think the price was fair for Norway. Amenities: it has a washer and dryer! There's also a hostel style kitchen if you aren't staying in a cabin. You can rent a canoe or bike. Like I said, I had bike issues but they addressed them so no complaints. I didn't canoe but it would have been most pleasant Of note: as a solo female, I never felt unsafe or uncomfortable during my 3...
Read moreWe camped here for 2 days in the beginning of August. Although the location is nice, I would definitely NOT go here again, because (1) the staff was unfriendly and (2) the facilities were bad.
Initially, the staff was kind when we arrived; we were allowed to choose our own spot and pay after finding one. However, later on, we were instructed (NOT kindly asked) to move our camper van 2 times because "we were not 4 meters away from our neighbors" (which they initially did not tell us). We listened to their instructions carefully both times, but a couple of hours later they would return and say "I am not responsible for what my colleague instructed you, you have to move". Without any hesitation or apologies. This not only happened to us: we heard the same story from our direct neighbors, and we saw the same thing happening to the people camping in front of us.
The running water to do your dishes with was ALWAYS cold and there were very few sinks. Sometimes the line would be as long as 5 people. You can't properly do your dishes with cold water (the fat won't dissolve)... Moreover, even though shower coins were quite expensive (I believe 20 NOK?), they displayed a message next to the showers, saying that "if the shower water is cold, this is because too many people are at the campsite. Thank you for your understanding". I think this is VERY poor service: you're letting your customers pay to use the showers, and then you blame them for the cold water! Lastly, the lines for the showers...
