While the cool winters in January made the entire environment so chilly, making the most of it before summer attacks, was very necessary. So happened the sudden plan of heading out to Jebel Shams. From plan to actually starting to head there all within a 3 hours. Being with family, we felt it better to wait overnight and return the next day. After some good amount of searches we selected to stay at Sama Heights Resort. Such a beautiful property! Thoughtfully landscaped and planned. Since we reached there by 7.30 pm the property welcomed us with beautiful lights all along the property that added to the aura. On checking in we were encouraged to head to the dinning area for dinner which is from 7 pm to 9 pm. We did just that. Dinner and lunch are included in the room pricing. Dinner was a buffet which had, chicken tikkas, beef roast, kabuli pulav, dal makhani, salads, hummus, khubus etc. After having our fill we headed to the room which was a cottage with a balcony. It was pre-heated with a room heater. We headed to the balcony and relaxed gazing at the dim lit skies and people heating up near bon fires. The next day we headed to the dining area for breakfast. Again a buffet with bread, butter, eggs to order, sausages, potato and peas bhaji, puri, tea, coffee etc. The taste and service was good. The staff there are helpful. They are not very supportive when it comes to extending check out times so please don’t take this for granted. Also they discourage you from eating anything or consuming beverages inside the room. So head to the balcony in such a case. Also carry some food / water / snacks since there are no shops/convenience stores close by. If you are heading here with family and are checking in, in the afternoon try and carry some board games or badminton racquets and shuttle corks etc to keep your kids busy. There is a TV though with satellite channels, but how long will your keep your kids glued to it. All in all a decent experience. A little more activity areas for kids like a half court basketball area or a golf putting area could be planned in the vast available space. We paid RO 75 for a night. Complimentary offering was a 4 Degree natural winter chill...

There are some reasons for me to give only a 3 star rating the one is that

we booked for a mountain view resort and due to lot of miss communication between them they have booked us Sultan net.

The second reason is that we were not told that their check in time is 2:00 PM and we drove from Muscat and reached there @ 11:00 PM and we did not get a place to get refreshed.

The third reason is after we got the booked tent we did not get the extra bed 🛌 as we were 3 people and one has to sacrifice some time for the other to take a nap.

Other than those the resort was fully booked on week end as that being a new ear day many guests were there and the resort was not planned to handle that crowd.

My recommendations for all the readers of my review is that should have proper bookings , communications of your plans and reach there. The people in resort after reaching have no idea to make any makeshift arrangements if anything goes wrong.

Positives:

They have good parking facilities , you can park your vehicle Infront of your alloted place.

They provide breakfast and dinner as compliment along with the booking.

The food there tastes good. The kitchen people are good helping staffs. They have lunch too but you have pay for that.. Nominal charges.

Nice and clean set up of rooms no regrets on that.

An advise from me to others is if the resort looks fully booked plan your timing for dinner as we faced a huge rush and no place to sit during dinner and we have to sit out of the dining area to have our dinner.

Over all an average experience staying there. Except other than the excellent natural view and the climate condition...

Some resorts feel like a home away from home, making you want to visit again and again. It could be the destination, the ambience, the facilities, the rooms, or even the way you're treated with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. Jebel Shams Sama Heights Resort has it all.

I say this with much confidence as my partner and I have spent many times at the resort, staying in all their rooms from Chalets to Sultan Tents.

Jebel Shams is the perfect place for loners, people seeking peace, or those who love a bit of chill air, canyons, and pure nature. It's just a small hilltop village with not many amenities, yet this resort feels like an oasis. You can stay without issues, enjoy piping hot food, and soak in the calmness.

From the hotel manager Zafar to Chef Rajneesh, Ali, Gaurab, and all the housekeeping staff, they offer their 100% to make visitors feel welcomed, keep the place clean, and serve the best food they can offer. Everyone's perspective may be different, and there might be some elements that others don't find good. But in a place where you can't get anything, this resort offers their best, and that is why I consider it the best.

It's a place to have a romantic hideout, a stopover for hiking, or an abode to have a relaxed stay.

I recommend staying at least two nights to enjoy the calmness and cool temperatures. Even in peak summer, you can feel the lower temps in the mornings...

Location is great, you can do the hikes easily from here. We had a sultan tent and while it was simple, it was also nice. The water on the bide could be improved and through the mattress you could feel the springs but it's not a tragedy for just one night. What was really bad was that a group of 30-35 teenagers checked in shortly after 11pm, put up about 13 small tents (see my pictures) in front of our accomodation/tent and continued partying and yelling until around 2:30. The yelling continued again around 5:30am. Needles to say we didn't sleep much - in the remote and most quite location on our trip in Oman. When we gave feedback at the reception, the person said he cannot do anything. No discount, no refund, no management on property to talk to, nothing. A sleepless night for ca. 190 Eur is a disaster and not really something we would recommend. Really pity.

Located just near in the heart of Jabel Shams mountains (perfect location if you are willing to do real hiking), the hotel is clean and provides you great hospitality. The hotel personnel are very helpful and will guide you throughout your stay. The hotel provides you almost every facilities from good rooms. The restaurant of hotel was fair, good quality food. There is a large playground for kids, and they loved it. The only concern was the maintenance of the facility in general, I recommend to put more investment on that, that will give more value to the prices required (not cheap). Overall experience was awesome. I'll recommend this hotel to every couple and families.

We stayed here two times, it was a nice experience and the location is incredibly beautiful ( 4WD Recommended ). We have chosen a Mountain View Room so the outside view and ambience was mesmerizing. The rustic atmosphere will make you feel like part of nature since it is not a typical hotel, but the essential amenities are available there too. It is just 5 minutes (by car) distance from the beginning of the balcony trail. The staff from reception to dining were very well mannered, especially the restaurant staff were very jovial and helpful.
