The mosque is open for tourists Saturday through Thursday ~8-11 am. You need to dress modestly so men need to wear pants and women need to wear long sleeve shirts, pants that cover ankles and a scarf around their hair. We arrived here later than expected but the staff were very welcoming and kind. Tour guides offer their services for 5 OMR per person and there are audio guides that cost 2.5 OMR but the entrance is free to everyone. We went with a tour guide and felt it was short but sweet. The mosque itself is stunning and truly a modern wonder. The materials to build the mosque come from all over the world. We spent a lot of time taking pictures of the different architectural pieces and designs. Before entering the main mosque hall everyone is expected to remove their shoes and go barefoot or with socks. Parking was plentiful and all you need to do is follow the signs during your visit to park. If you take a taxi ask to be dropped off at the information centre. Plan to spend about at least an hour here and longer if you want to check out the library or have coffee and dates. Information books are free and offered in many languages. Coffee and dates are also free but you may need to ask a staff member where to go as the...
Read moreVisited my husband in Sohar and checked-in in this hotel apartment. I initially had fears as we were used to taking 3-4 star hotels prior. But their prices were cheap and so we opted to try. Well, this was definitely worth it!We took the one bedroom apartment and it was large enough for my husband and I. Although an induction cooker was present in the kitchen, cooking was not allowed (though we were aching to cook) The facilities were clean, the staff were very courteous, they respected your "alone" time and would rather have you call them if you want your room cleaned. They had a generous supply of bottled water, coffee and tea, creamer and the my most favorite part- their vanity kit (which had a shampoo, body wash, soap and lotion). Bath towels were changed regularly. Room charges included a decent breakfast. Heads up info: Please realize you are not paying more and so you should not expect an extravagant breakfast buffet. If you want extravagance then better opt for a 5 star hotel. The hotel's location is very ideal and walking distance to banks, hospital, pharmacies, local groceries and the newly assigned bus stop (no 30) of mwasalat (that would take u in and out of sohar). It was a...
