My new happy place in Sohar! I’m delighted to find comfortable accommodation at reasonable prices, in contrast to unremarkable places that charge high rates.
Pros: *Directly on the beach! *Spacious community balcony with tables, chairs, swings, and wind chimes! *Secure and private. The external door required an entry code, and each floor required an entry code. So only those staying on your floor were on your floor—no exploring kids from other levels, no one from the street looking for a restroom. *Comfortable and clean beds (and I care about quality beds and linens) *A mini fridge and hot water pot in the room, both clean *A luxury shower head and great water pressure *A massive smart TV with access to a Netflix account (how fun is that?!) *A friendly but not obsequious check-in clerk who was also willing to bring chai to the room when requested *A super smooth check-in process
Cons: *My room faced the house next door, so Nhar wisely installed metal slats over the window for privacy, presumably to avoid the awkwardness of guests forgetting to close the curtains or the next door neighbors staring in. However, be aware that it’s not just “not a sea view”—it’s no view at all. I knew I wasn’t paying for a sea view, and the community balcony more than made up for the lack of bedroom view. But if you want an actual view, do pay extra for it. *There was quite a bit of noise from children playing—not unpleasant, but not quiet. Because I couldn’t look out my window, I never figured out if it was children in the house next door or children in another room at Nhar. I think that Nhar had good soundproofing and the noise was from next door, but I’m not sure. *There were no cups or stirrers or utensils, so I went out and bought a ceramic mug and silverware to enjoy my tea with—not a big deal and more environmentally friendly. But if you are coming from home, bring your own cup and utensils. *The Disney decor was a little over the top, but it made me smile. Kids would love it.
I highly recommend Nhar; I had such a lovely stay! The owner clearly has good ideas about what makes guests happy, from the amenities to the good prices. I wish there were more places that had this combination of both in Oman. I half want to knock a couple of stars off my rating so as to make sure that Nhar isn’t sold out the next time I come, but...

Location: good Hygiene: Above average Property is in mint condition. Safety is followed Arabic people are very good (mate with a tenant in same building) and his family treated us as we are their own guests. Provided baby cot with nice clean bedding Hair dryer, Toiletries and towels provided
Cons: Hotel staff needs to learn customer interaction. They are English/Hindi speaker but anything you request them, the response you get from the staff is like "We are living for free and asking for favor" Example: When we checked in, toilet roll in bathroom was wet, I requested the staff to provide another one. He made face and asked "abhi chahiye kya" meaning "you need now..!" (Still we tip them to encourage better service)
They provide in house tea/coffee on request. Kitchen is not for guests use.
We can use microwave but this is also locked and we need to request them if we wanna use.
4.Not allowed to eat on dining table.
We stayed at king sea view double room The room is not the king size It has two single beds which can be joined as one but leaves this big gap in between which makes sleeping difficult.
Small bathroom
Water heater takes alot of time to make hot water
Swimming pool access is only for people who book entire one bedroom apartment on top floor. We were not aware about this as generally swimming pool access is provided to all guests in a hotel. Later checked online and found we can't access swimming pool if have king room booked.
We were provided 4 bottle of 200ml each which is not even enough for few hours (Family of four) Need to keep asking for water.
All in all an average one time experience. A bit overpriced for the service and interior.
I would suggest to book a hotel for same price and then drive to...
Read moreIf you are seeking an alternative to the big hotel chains of Radisson or Crowne Plaza in Sohar then Nhar is a decent option. Located right on the beach some 5km from the city's corniche, fish market and fort, you will be welcomed by the constant crashing of waves.|A family of 4, we booked the entire upper floor which includes two bedrooms, a terrace facing the sea with a swing, a children's pool and seating area. Old kitchen + TV with Netflix also available. The place was spacious and rather quaint - the living room came with a disco light and fogger! |There are a few modest supermarkets within walking distance so basic self-catering is possible. |Our major issue with Nhar was that we barely slept at night because of an ongoing mechanic noise that the owner later explained was the hotel's "water freshener system". So for the light sleepers among us, you may want to think twice before booking here. His laconic reply when we raised the issue also wasn't a bright example of good customer service. There might have been a language barrier but it was as if there was a lack of willingness to address the issue. So given we paid for the more luxurious rooms this wasn't really a great deal after all despite the joy of spending the...
