Al Thabit Hotel Apartment — Hotel in Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate

My wife booked 3 rooms on April 6th at Super OYO 111 Al Thabit Hotel on Agoda, for 5 people, to stay in that hotel on Sunday, May 12th for 1 night.

The money for the 3 rooms was taken from our account by the hotel on May 8th.

On May 9th, she received an email from Agoda saying that the hotel cancelled our booking, and giving us two options: to either get a refund, or for Agoda to find us a similar hotel. We also checked on our side what was available, but just 3 days before our arrival date it was tricky to find another hotel with 3 rooms available.

To our surprise, we find that Super OYO 111 Al Thabit Hotel had 3 rooms available for Sunday, May 12th, but for double the price of our original booking. It is interesting that the hotel that we’ve booked 1 month ago decide that they “cannot accommodate us” at the price we payed, but if you pay double the price they can accommodate you.

We communicated the issue with Agoda but there isn’t anything that they can do. We also messaged the hotel directly to ask what’s going on and we didn’t even get a reply. Bearing in mind that they charged us for the room 1 day before cancelling our booking, we weren’t 100% of the situation. Unfortunately, we still haven’t heard from the hotel.

We can’t really say if this hotel is great or awful, however, our experience with them has been very disappointing, and the follow-up/customer service inexistant.

Not expensive yet a nice hotel in Sur! Upsides: We got a huge room with three separate comfy beds. The A/C was very powerful, the room was cold as desired. Our room was clean and featured a big washroom and a TV with hundreds of Arabic channels and a few English stations. The staff at the receptions was fantastic. The lads even made coffee for us! There was free parking available in front of the building. One interesting thing for me was a blue light bulb in the room which we could turn on. Sur Beach is located not far away, approx. 10 minutes of fast walk. There are shops and restaurants nearby as well. Downsides: Breakfast was not available. Tea, coffee or even a kettle wasn't available...

We had a pleasant stay in this hotel. For 25 rial it was fine. Room was very spacious, clean nicelly decorated and with a small fridge. Airconditioning worked well. Receptionist spoke good English and made us feel welcome. No breakfast but further into town you had a very nice coffee house where a breakfast for 1,5 rial (bread + coffee) was served. The hotel is located just as you drive into Sur. Parking is available but it is quite busy because of the bank underneath the hotel (people then block the entrance of the hotel). Free WiFi was available but did not work in (our?) room. It is on a busy road but the noise was minimal. The more affordable accommodations in Oman are all located...
