Undoubtedly, the best thing about the Mutrah Hotel are its people and the great customer service they provide. The hotel was one of the first ones to be built in Muscat and most likely in Oman. So, you are going to stay in a landmark hotel and not just a hotel.
The Omani hospitality is felt everyday; fresh dates and cardamon coffee are always available next to the reception.
During my 6 nights at the hotel I felt I was always very well looked after by the hotel's reception (thanks to Bernard and Sadiq) and the entire staff. The reception always went an extra mile to make me feel comfortable and even when they did not have a spare charger for my phone, within 30 min they arranged for a personal one and sent it to me at 2am.
The hotel is very secure and although there are no safes in the rooms one can leave passports and other belongings at a safe in the reception as well as the luggage for a later pick-up. There is also a dry-cleaning facility and a good gym available if you need to do your workout.
The hotel's restaurant has a great choice of very good and inexpensive Indian food to offer (much better value than outside restaurants).
Another advantage of the hotel is its location; you can reach any place in Muscat from there by car. The hotel is also a walking distance to the Mutrah Souq (20min) and close to Rumi and about 35 km from the airport. There is SPAR shop opposite the hotel with many shops leading to the souq offering women tailoring and selling traditional, Indian and Balushi colourful dresses for special occasions.
I would not hesitate to stay there again because I know I would be very well looked after. Bernard, Sadiq and the Balushi family - thanks for making my holiday an unforgettable...

Reception staff are so friendly also and care about your needs. The wifi is terrible it keeps connecting and disconnecting, very difficult to plan or organize your day trips with little to no wifi. The restaurant is horrible. Extremely slow service having to ask serveral times for cutlery and water. Not friendly staff in the restaurant and don't come across like they care for your needs. Not hospitable at all. We booked a day tour with Bernard to visit Wadi AL Shab, the sinkhole etc. Our guide wasn't really a guide more just a driver. I was told I would be given a life jacket for Wadi AL shab since I don't swim but they failed to deliver and I had to hold onto my friends back for the swim. Very disappointed that I couldn't put my trust in Bernard and the driver to help me out with getting a life vest. The lunch was nice but no cutlery like a spoon, fork or knife was provided nor was the food refrigerated. The chicken is on the bone for the chicken biryani and wasn't kept cool so was left in the heat of the jeeps boot for hours. There was also a yogurt type dish that we opted out of eating as that too was not...
Read moreThe good rating is only for the very friendly and helpful staff. Room service is very fast Matthew who works in the hotel bar is great, very friendly and helpful with anything. There was an Omani lady working reception yesterday afternoon who helped me out a lot with a personal issue when she didn’t have to, unfortunately I didn’t catch her name but she couldn’t have been more polite and helpful, I’m very grateful.
I had to move room as my AC stopped working after 2 days, in the replacement room the key cannot come out of the door so I had to leave my room unlocked while I’m out and if I tried to turn the heat on in the shower, the water stopped coming out.
The outside and entrance to the hotel looks great but the rooms seriously need upgraded.
I don’t think I’ve ever been in a bar with such friendly people before. The Omanis are extremely welcoming and go out of their way to make conversation with you and make you feel welcome. I love the...
