It was a coincidence that I ended up at Boca Chica Bay EcoLodge. From the very beginning, I was treated like a good friend coming to visit. As I was traveling alone, I felt particularly welcome here and never felt alone or lonely. The Golden Frog room had direct access to the terrace, a beautiful view of the infinity pool (warm, nice - you could have stayed in the pool forever), Pacific Ocean and islands. I could watch the “house” hawk flying back and forth on the property daily. Also saw all kinds of animals - lots of different birds, including beautiful green parrots, I also saw monkeys - Erika has a good eye for spotting them in the trees and showed them to me. I enjoyed the view and the garden/trees every day, it was somehow always different - so beautiful. My hosts also had recommended an island boat tour (puerto/port Boca Chica only 3-5 minutes away by car, about 20 min. if you walk) - they organized both the payment and the booking, and the captain even took photos of all of us, which I received afterwards. It all worked out really well. At the port is also a good Panamesian restaurant Costa, I like a lot and was a recommendation of my hosts. Erika and Herbie were so helpful in all areas and put me in touch with an expat community. I can't believe how helpful, open and friendly I was treated here. The room was spacious, very nicely furnished with a beautiful bathroom and walk-in closet, which could be locked separately (for valuables or similar) super clean, it was tidied up daily, fresh towels were laid out. A big breakfast with coffee, juice, fresh fruit and toast, eggs, tomato and much more, depending on what you wanted. You also could get there beer, water, Coke etc. for a very reasonable price - so you could enjoy the view without going to another place having a beer or wine. A wonderful place that I will definitely visit again on my next trip to Panama.Once again, many thanks to Erika and Herbie, the best hosts I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thanks a lot to Erika and...
Read moreThis place is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are clean, the pool area is incredible. We could watch the hummingbirds in the trees and it truly is a place to relax. HErbie was always available via email or whatsapp and organized an island tour for us which was also really nice. Boca chica is a place to relax, there is a nice restaurant just a few steps away so if you look for nature and calm hours at the pool you should spend some nights with Herbie and Erika. Herbie even offered to drive us to our next hotel in boquete (2h drive) for a way cheaper fare than other taxis would have offered which was nice.||One thing I want to mention is that I do have to agree with some of the reviews about the very strict vibe that Herbie creates in his home. Maybe they had some bad experiences how other people behaved but we were a bit surprised. There are two big open kitchen and we wanted to cut open a fruit we bought at a shop and appearently we were not supposed to touch the dishes. Since this house is in the middle of nowhere I would have expected this not to be a problem as long as we clean up. Also on our first morning we suggested having breakfast outside (where there are also tables 2 meters away from the kitchen) which was actually denied since the table was already set up inside. If you offer a beautiful view like that I would actually expect some flexibility when it comes to that. What I found actually most disturbing is that in our two days Herbie frequently harshly talked to Erika which gave us a weird feeling when laying in a hammock and listening to them "argue" but maybe it was just a coincidence and bad timing. ||To summarize: Highly recommend spending some days at the lodge but it would be great if the hosts would be a bit...
Read moreMy wife and I loved every moment of our stay at Boca Chica Bay Eco Lodge. The building is stunningly set on the top of a hill overlooking the bay and the architecture and layout of the lodge is carefully and beautifully integrated with its surroundings. It felt like we were home, but with expansive views of magnificent grounds, the invinity pool, the surrounding hills, islands and sea. Whether sitting quietly on our balcony enjoying the antics of the monkeys in the surrounding trees and wide variety of colourful birds, lounging poolside, or enjoying the most perfect view of the Milky Way at night, it soothed our souls just to be there. Our wonderful hosts Herbie and Erika were most gracious and helpful throughout our stay, from welcoming us on arrival and showing us around, to preparing delicious breakfasts every day, helping us plan our days (visiting the local islands and beaches, dining at the excellent local restaurants) and entertaining us with their stories, their charm and wit. When, sadly, it was time for us to leave, they were there to see us off and wave goodby. We felt like family, and very much look forward to...
