What can I say to fully describe the experience? The location is remote and beautiful with amazing nearby beaches, flowers and gardens everywhere. The wildlife is awesome, you'll see howler monkeys, sloths, frogs, fish, hermit crabs, birds, lizards galore for the lizard freaks like me. The food and drinks are simply amazing. Thought they must have Chef Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen, but it's actually Chef Kevin and you can tell he puts care into every meal. Before booking we read about the food being great but weren't prepared for actually how fabulous it was. To make things even better everything is locally sourced and feels so healthy. Even the alcoholic beverages make you feel healthy. The Bartender Nico puts just as much devotion into his drinks as the Chef does the food. Hands down the best drinks(alcoholic and non) we've had in Panama. The atmosphere is very laid back and chill, not a party scene but a wonderful jungle get away to escape the city. They provide kayaks, canoes and snorkeling equipment and you can go all the way out to bird island and be on your own time instead of having to stay with a tour guide. The staff even cares enough to send people to check on you all the way out there. Celeste was very helpful and informative. The pool overlooking the ocean was very nice to hang out in and sip on some drinks. They offer shuttling to starfish beach included and daily yoga sessions. Honestly the only reason we left is because we already had reservations in another place for a few days. We even did consider letting those reservations go but decided to go on to the next adventure. This place is a paradise, they're doing great work and anytime we return to Isla Colòn we...

I think this review deserves 2 different parts given my overall experience with the hotel/staff that work at the hotel and the communication with the owner, kit. ||First off, the hotel is in a very beautiful location and has access to remote beaches. You can see some very interesting wildlife. The staff (Nico, Max, and others) go above and beyond to be helpful and make it a good experience to stay there. The food and drinks are excellent. As said on the website, there is no AC and the place mainly runs on solar energy. ||My problem lies with the last minute communication I received from the owner, Kit, who was not there at the hotel. Around 9pm, a night before leaving to the hotel, I received a message from Kit about very muddy roads based on construction and weather. It was offered that we could change hotels and they would assist us with no charge. I have booked this hotel over a month ago so I was baffled by this last minute message since it could easily be sent in advance. Talking to other guests, it seemed that they received a last minute message too. This appeared to be kinda a shady business practice. Also, the message saying that we may need to stop at the neighbors property and then walk a few hundred meters of the roads are too muddy. And he offered staff to carry our luggage. It is quite a walk to get to the hotel from the neighbors. The paths are slippery and I know I would not be comfortable having staff carry my suitcase for that distance ( given it would feel like a exploitative request). Also, I a bit confused why a hotel frames itself as having "volunteers" on their if page when it is really a work exchange. It's a business, not an...

This was my second time at Bird Island Bungalows, and my first official time running a retreat there. I cannot say enough positive things about Mari, Kit, and the entire staff (managers, bartenders, drivers, cooking and cleaning staff) at Bird Island Bungalows. They make the entire process so easy — from logistics and communication ahead of the retreat time, to the warm welcome we received upon arrival, to feeling incredibly supported throughout our entire stay. As a retreat leader, having your hosts be so organized and on top of things makes your portion of the job not just easier but also more enjoyable! As for the space, well, the pictures do not do it justice. The sound of the ocean and the birds, the hypnotic ocean views, the comfortable rooms and bungalows. You really feel like you are immersed in nature but with all of the amenities and comforts of a quaint ecolodge. The yoga spaces are lovely. I love the ample common areas and the lodge animals as well. The place has such an air of hominess and comfort. The food is delicious and plentiful, and there are also snacks, smoothies, coffee and bar drinks available as well. Finally, we love hosting retreats here because of the proximity to some world class beaches and sights. You could easily stay here without leaving for 5-7 days, but there are fun and enjoyable activities nearby such as Bird Island, Starfish Beach, and a number of excellent hikes. I recommend organizing the massage therapists to come as they are incredible. I will definitely be back there and hopefully with another group in tow!

A resort that stands out from the rest in Panama. One of the best places I've ever been able to truly relax/vacation while also traveling. I loved the way that they embraced local culture and the surrounding national reserve and jungle. It stood out from other resorts I've stayed at worldwide with its access to wildlife in the ocean and in water. Especially with being writing kayaking distance of the Bird Island sanctuary and hosting turtle conservation staff from around the world. Additionally, their use of local plants, fruits, and vegetables to create amazing meals made it the best resort did on the island by a long way. I was able to enjoy the healthy, sustainable, and local cuisine 3 times a day for an entire week without getting bored with the options. Everything from Vegan food that will fill you up to local made chorizo complements their roasting selections themed by different world regions each night of the week. All of this paired well with cocktails and smoothies from fresh shaken whiskey sours to local banana and cacao smoothies. Which I was able to enjoy with meals or by the pool relaxing. Working from my Casita with WiFi was a breeze and I didn't have any issues making Zoom and WhatsApp calls for work while here for the week. Loved my stay and the multiple different beaches to walk to and enjoy a different activity at each day and I'm still in disbelief that I never saw a single mosquito. Thank you, can't wait to return and relax!

I can't say enough good things about Bird Island Bungalows! From the moment of arrival, I felt completely transported. The lush surroundings, jungle sounds, and charming architecture created such a unique and pleasing atmosphere. My bungalow was perfectly sized, enjoyed an almost constant sea breeze, and had breathtaking views of the jungle and ocean. Easy access to multiple secluded beaches, paddleboarding directly from a private cove, and a freshwater lagoon a short walk along the beach ensures there is plenty to do on site! What truly set this place apart was the exceptional service offered by the Bird Island Bungalow team! – they helped arrange fantastic excursions to Starfish Beach, Bird Island, surfing, and one of the best snorkeling experiences I’ve had. Their warmth made us feel like family and ensured every need was met with gracious hospitality The peace and tranquility here allowed for true relaxation, and the opportunity to experience this beautiful area of Panama was priceless. If you're looking for an unforgettable escape, Bird Island Bungalows is an absolute must. I’m already planning my next visit!"
