As an expat with over 50 years of experience living in the Dominican Republic, working in villa rental management, commercial development, and the restaurant industry, I am no stranger to high standards in hospitality and tourism. Recently, at the invitation of some Panamanian friends, I decided to explore Panama for the first time. We chose to stay at Misty Moonlight Villas, and I must say, it was a decision that exceeded all expectations.

The property is truly extraordinary. From the exotic overwater villa that offered a one-of-a-kind experience to the sprawling 15-acre grounds featuring manicured hiking trails, botanical gardens, and an operational plantation, Misty Moonlight Villas is a haven of tranquility and natural beauty. The plantation is home to chocolate trees, hydroponic gardens, and a medicinal garden, all curated by Kelly, the owner, a Native American breast cancer survivor. Her remarkable story of using native plants and organic cooking in her recovery added a personal and inspirational touch to our stay.

Each villa on the property is uniquely designed, from exotic overwater accommodations to a stunning mountain cabin perched at the highest point in Bocas del Toro. The mountain villa, with its private deck, jacuzzi, and sweeping views, was a particular highlight, making the property feel even more expansive and enchanting. Stay in touch with Starlink high-speed internet connection, plus local internet so you will never be with out.

What sets Misty Moonlight Villas apart is its blend of luxury and cultural immersion. The property provides easy access to local adventures through a fast, public water taxi service to Bocas Town. These rides were unexpectedly delightful, offering sightings of dolphins and stops at vibrant indigenous villages where locals, dressed in colorful attire, boarded the boat. The rides felt like a mini-tour in themselves, often more engaging than planned excursions.

The local indigenous community added a charming layer to our experience. Children paddled up to our villa in canoes with smiles as bright as the sun, selling everything from empanadas to fresh fish and lobster. It was a heartwarming glimpse into the culture and lifestyle of the region.

Throughout our stay, the staff maintained a perfect balance of attentiveness and respect for privacy, making the experience feel more like staying at a private retreat with hotel-level services. Kelly’s extensive knowledge of organic cooking and her emphasis on healthy meals elevated our dining experience, offering a delicious and health-conscious twist that I truly appreciated.

My wife and I recently took a trip to Bocas Del Toro to an Island called Loma Partida In the Archipelago. We drove from Boquete to Chiriqui Grande and then took a convenient water taxi for 30 minutes, over to a very special romantic destination "Misty Moonlight Villa Organic Plantation and Retreat". We spent two unforgettable nights in their luxury Villa Hacienda Del Mar Villa Built completely over the water with a spectacular setting, breathtaking views, calm clear waters for swimming, and a chance to see dolphins from its spacious decks. Inside a huge precious woods living room with a giant High Def TV and every uptodate movie and TV series in Dolby surround sound you could name, they call "Jungle Cinema".The accommodations and special touches went far beyond our expectations,and they offered complimentary fully stocked Mini Bar ( NICE!!!) , 2 bedrooms with luxury en suite bathrooms (Japanese toilets) Activities included snorkeling, underwater motorcycle, kayaking, romantic sandy private beach and plenty of hiking trails with gorgeous views, and wildlife There is a lookout deck called "The Edge of Forever", that you need to experience to see one of Panama's great vitas, and a place which is active we herd with UFO’s sightings. We didn't see one this time, but the Toucans, Howler Monkeys, and rain forest provided exotic otherworldly sounds. We opted for a tour around this enchanting island in Misty's private luxury tour boat with a local guide, so informative history from Columbus to Pirates , plus sea and birdlife was a great way to pass an afternoon with a stocked cooler!!! The owner has an extensive traveling background to over 120 countries visited. He was a great host with fascinating stories and a really nice guy. The meals we tailored to our liking, plus cooked to order. Thai lobster soup and Bisque. Italian linguine and lasagna, fresh fruits and salad from the property were the best meals we had in Panama!!! A major advantage exclusive to the resort is its scheduled public taxi boat service, running five times daily between the dock and town. This unique feature sets Misty Moonlight apart from all other villas in Bocas del Toro. The convenience was unmatched, especially when compared to our friends’ experience staying on a different island.

The property is located on an ancient volcanic cinder cone, surrounded by lush orchids, citrus groves, and vibrant tropical flowers. Unlike other mangrove islands, it is nearly free of pesky insects year-round, making outdoor activities a delight. Misty Moonlight also boasts three miles of expertly managed hiking trails, leading through jungle rivers, chocolate forests, and to the highest point in Bocas del Toro, with breathtaking panoramic views.

One night we stayed in Bocas Town and were kept awake by loud disco music until 4 a.m. returning to Misty Moonlight the next day felt like a blessing. The serene beauty of the property, especially under a full moon shimmering over the bay, offered a stark and welcome contrast to the noise of town.

The tours offered by Misty Moonlight were another highlight, providing personalized tours. The staff, went above and beyond to make our stay truly memorable.
