Las Nubes Hostal — Hotel in Chiriquí

We just spend the most romantic weekend ever at Hacienda Las Nubes. Talk about the perfect retreat. Way up in the mountain and next to the cloud forest it is without a doubt the best place I have visited in Chiriqui. Secluded and very private it has amazing views of the Baru Volcano. Comfortable and functional it has been designed wit good taste and using local woods and stones giving its alpine architecture an authentic mountain feel. This is definitely one of the great finds in Panama. The town before the hotel is called NEW SWITZERLAND and it truly feels like you are in the Alps. Temperatures drop in the late afternoon and a glass of wine next to the fireplace makes for a very romantic and relaxing evening. Quetzals and hummingbirds can be seen from the living room. The Ranch in the Clouds is simply an amazing place to visit. Its near all the attractions in Cerro Punta, Bambito and Volcan yet away from it all. A mountain road takes you way up to 2,250 meters above sea level and that's why there is so much flora and fauna. The Ranch is right next to the Park and the Lodge is set at the edge of the Cloud Forest. Running mountain streams come down and around the lodge from way up in the mountain. Mr. Amador, the keeper is a sweetheart and very much into the hospitality trip. He is a natural. He offers a shuttle service and free parking at the base of the mountain where he lives if you don't want to drive up the mountain road yourself. Such a nice time we had I had to write this review. First, this is not an Hotel in the classic hotel definition, you don’t have electricity/light, just a couple hours at night with diesel generator, there is not reception, no Internet, no one to make your bed, no one around you, and this is maybe the main reason why this retreat is such wonderful for people who want to be in touch with nature, you need to bring your food if you want to use the kitchen they have, there are no fridge but you can bring your own cooler, or simple go outside to eat and to enjoy daily trips around Volcan, Cerro Punta and Boquete, If you are looking for outdoor/eco adventures this is the place to choose. ||||It is highly recommend to have a 4x4 that’s the only way to go to the cabins by your own, or you can call Amador to take you to the base where a regular car can park, personally I prefer to have the 4x4 and rest assure that for any emergency at night I’ll be able to drive myself out, because at night there is not a single soul around you and everything...

It was a birthday present for my wife. We usually spend a couple of days twice a year in the highlands of Panama for a climate change from the hot Pacific coast. And usually we go to Boquete, where is a lot of life, restaurants and activities. The Hacienda Las Nubes in Cerro Punta is on the quieter side of the mountain and is no luxury resort but a very comfortable and cozy place to enjoy quiet hours in spring like climate.||||The only 2 cabins run by the very friendly family of Mr. Amador are built of stone and wood, have a fire place, and a huge bathroom with hot water.
