This place is simply wonderful! We had high expectations having read all the reviews, but they have been surpassed. Everything was even nicer than we were anticipating. The cabana was spacious, and cool, and fresh and clean - a lovely place to escape to in the heat of the day. The balcony, with its hammock, was pleasant at any time of day and overlooked the tropical forest. We took turns swaying away whilst watching the wildlife and listening to the bird song. ||||The main house is a lovely place to relax also, and the sea view from the terrace is just beautiful. It is also very entertaining to watch Matilda the resident spider monkey, swinging from her tree. ||||The food is simply delicious. It is a fixed menu but always wonderful, and our children devoured everything. It was lovely to pull up on the first day to see an enormous freshly caught red snapper being cleaned, and that would be on our plates within the hour. Breakfast was equally lovely, as was lunch on the one occasion we ate in. ||||The beach is beautiful and enormous. We had it pretty much to ourselves for our five day stay, with occasional walkers from the village having a stroll when the tide allowed. The children had surf lessons from Beatriz which they loved. They are big waves and so it is important to supervise children closely, and to exercise caution where the sea is concerned. ||||Pedro and Mai have been spending time in Europe with their son, and so Beatriz and Pauline are in charge and were excellent hosts throughout our stay. We had the pleasure of meeting Pedro and Mai though as they were back for a visit, and we very much enjoyed their company. What a story they have to tell about the life they have created in Panama. It is truly off the beaten track so be prepared for a long slow drive down a dirt track and through several gates!||||We had a fantastic excursion to Coiba Island. It is stunningly beautiful, and a we had a very full and well organized day at very good value. Take Beatrice's advice regarding who to book with as not all tours seemed as good. Indeed the town of Santa Catalina itself is pretty down at heel. Fantastic if you want to experience the real Panama, but not a high end holiday destination if that is what you are looking for.||||The same cannot be said for Cabanas la Coquita - the individual attention we received, and the genuine interest and care that was taken in providing us with a fantastic holiday experience were first class. Bravo and thank you to...
Read moreWe just came back from spending four nights at Cabanas la Coquita, and I am so thankful my wife found this place! Pedro, Mai, Bea, and Pieo were such lovely hosts, and we had a great time with them and at their cabanas. ||||The accommodations themselves are lovely, clean, and well maintained. We had a great porch with a hammock to sit and read, air conditioning, and a warm water shower. The bed was comfortable and the linens were clean. ||||The real draw of the place expands beyond the actual lodging. First, the food they cook is AMAZING! We had shrimp, steak, and pasta in the three meals we had there, and the steak was one of the best I have had in a very long time. Second, Pedro is a great surfer and he gave us a lot of great tips and instructions that improved our abilities (plus he has boards you can use). ||||Finally, the cabanas are in front of a basically deserted beach. It was lovely to spend time alone on the beach and swimming as we wised. ||||I highly recommend this place!! ||||One night, it is a bit outside of town, which was good for us as well. I recommend having a rental car though if you are going to stay here so you can come and go...
