Family of 3 with a 3 yr old. Thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days at the Rapopo Resort. The restaurant and reception staff were very helpful and responsive to any request we made. The food was lovely and we asked a couple of times for sandwiches or snacks for our 3 yr old and this was no trouble. The resort is as eco friendly as possible and supports the local community with a daily free shuttle to the town marketplace where there is an abundance of local produce and craft. The room was clean and air conditioned, and good size. Small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. There is an aviary with colorful birds that are free to come and go. The pool area is lovely and clean and relaxing for all, with a swim up bar or juice shop as our 3yr old called it (although this wasn't open when we were there) with in the pool stools. The grounds are lush and green and the beach perfect for the kids to play at with clear water that we took our 3yr out in with goggles and saw so many fish. I saw photos of the Resort set up for weddings and it looks amazing it would be the perfect spot for it. Rabaul-Kokopo Dive is located in the Resort and they have a lot of activities on for the whole family. We can highly recommend the Dolphin feeding, this isn't actually feeding the dolphins but going out in the boat to the area the dolphins feed at and getting in the water and swimming with them. For those that are interested the tour to the WWII tunnels is so interesting and we did this with the 3yr old and he loved having the torch and leading the way. The trek to the volcano is a must. We went to the base with the 3yr old and the hot springs but they do trek all the way up and in the volcano but I wouldn't recommend it for the small kids as it is a bit treacherous. The employees of Rabaul-Kokopo Dive were fantastic and so so knowledgeable well worth booking in with them, we plan to take more of their activities when we return next. My suggestions for those with kids, take torches and when you go to dinner at night you will hear the frogs and you can go spotting them while waiting for your food, take mosquito repellent, the Resort does do the fogging but there are sand flies also, but not too bad. Take goggles and snorkels and a pool noodle, our 3yr snorkeled with us out on the reef with his life jacket on, goggles and holding on to a pool noodle and putting his face in the water, he loved it and was in there for around 30min and would have stayed longer, you can do this off the beach at the Resort too. Take sand toys. There are supermarkets not too far away if you have a car. This really is a great place to stay, how many Resorts have an owner walking around talking to guests each day checking in that everything is alright with your stay and chatting about anything you are interested in. Also, before leaving the resort to fly out, ask the reception staff to make sure your flight is on time, it is a definite to do as you would rather be waiting at the resort then the airport and flights can be delayed...
Read moreGreat place on the water with a dive shop built in offering great day trips. Fantastic pool tho sadly the wet bar didn't open, perhaps cos we were there Mon-Wed in July so fair enough. Nice air conditioned rooms, excellent spa/massage that a few of us got hooked on and good food tho they have an insane way of delivering meals that has nothing to do with when the order was placed or what was ordered. Four of us ordered lobster chowder entrees at the same time as the rest of the table and each bowl arrived about ten minutes apart, with one being followed immediately by their main and the other mains using the same insane methodology. It was maddening to be honest. Tonight a mate and I arrived so late that the guy next to me was already eating his main, everyone having long since ordered. Yet our mains arrived WAY before the other eight who ordered before we even arrived. PLEASE FIX THIS GUYS. The sirloin and greeny fish curry were superb. They cook medium rare perfectly pink. Loved my stay, the meal delivery thing was more amusing and confusing than an issue, and they kept the drinks coming - service was...
Read moreWe had advice from friends to be very careful in Papua New Guinea. Rapopo, Rabaul, Kokopo and East New Britain generally were on par with the friendliness we would have expected in Fiji or Samoa.||The staff were relaxed, friendly and extremely helpful, the array of activities and tours on offer from dolphin swims to volcano climbs were incredible, and with the mask festival on at the same time there was no shortage of planned activities. The staff were happy to accommodate additional requests including a local rugby league game. Strongly recommend seeing one of those if you get the chance.||My dad isn't as mobile as he used to be, which was one of the reasons we went to Rapopo. He made use of the boat ramp and beach access to go snorkelling in the onshore reef daily and didn't get tired of that at all. I've never seen a lionfish in the wild before. ||The on-site kitchen menu was great and well priced, and the food was top notch. We also used the in-room kitchen a few times.||Thanks for an amazing holiday. Can't...
