The hotel and its various restaurants are a treat. I really enjoyed staying here. The lodgings are excellent and spacious. The people are friendly and the service is great.

I recommend getting a room facing the airport runway. I was on the second floor and had nice views. Third floor would have been even more nicer. However, that’s not a big issue as views form the 7th floor restaurant and pool area could not be beat.

My checkin was smooth. I had arrived at 6am. I did have to pay for an extra night as first I was told no room is available for an early check in, and then when I agree to pay the room “appeared”. I would have preferred a somewhat reduced charge for this rather than a full night, but cant complain too much; the amenities and experience more than made up for this.

The hotel is setup in the airport theme and has many nice details like metal benches and the checkin desk shaped form a wing. There’s a plane fuselage on the 7th floor as well.

The food service was great. I especially loved the ambiance of the first floor cafe, and the fountain that’s next to it. It rained one day, and sitting in that lounge sipping on a yummy strawberry mouse and listening to the fountain and the rain was surreal. I would want to do it again one day.

The breakfast buffet spread is pretty good and have numerous options. The fresh fruit juices were a plus. I also had dinner here one day and found the traditional rice and stew very intriguing. I also enjoyed that the omelets had a spicy kick to them.

There’s security at each floor, and you need key card access to roam around. This made me feel safe (though presence of too much security worries me sometimes). This I believe is normal for PNG.

The hotel offers free pick and drop service to the airport. Also, the on-site SPA has excellent options. The pool had nice water, and I enjoyed some swimming as well.

Overall, a great...

I stayed here three times in five weeks for a total of seven nights. I also tried the Hilton Hotel and while the rooms there are newer and more luxurious, I prefer the Airways due to it’s proximity to the airport (five minutes drive in free frequent shuttles that meet all flights—you can even arrange pick up from the Tropic Air terminal); friendly service; excellent food and spa facilities.

Rooms are fairly spacious and very clean. Housekeeping is very responsive to extra towel requests and the same day laundry service is excellent. WIFI is fast for PNG and there is a good choice of cable channels if you have been to remote corners of PNG and want to stay connected to the news.

The spa is deservedly busy night and day. Prior reviews stated they have short towels only. That is no longer the case. They have lovely full length bath towels. They also have a gym.

You are spoilt for food choices: there is the very upmarket fine dining pricey Bachus Restaurant; a bakery coffee shop; and the main dining area overlooking the airport runway complete with an old plane decked out in the Airways colors. The breakfast (complete with fresh drinking coconuts) and dinner buffets are standouts. The a la carte menu is tasty too and food is ready fairly quickly.

The concierge has a list of taxi drivers who can drive you safely around time and even further afield to the War Cemetery and start of Kakoda Trail. But be prepared to bargain!

They also have an ATM machine and a male and female Filipino hair stylist that do a good job.

Plus there’s a lovely smell of lemongrass oil throughout the common areas of the hotel.

A great...

Staying at Airways Hotel in Port Moresby was a real highlight of my trip. From the moment I arrived, the setting impressed: the hotel is nestled in its own botanical gardens with sweeping views over Bootless Bay and the Owen Stanley Ranges. It feels like a calm oasis despite being so close to the airport.

The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable, with a mix of modern finishes and timber touches that make the place feel warm. The amenities are excellent: indoor and outdoor pools, a full fitness centre, spa & wellness facilities, and even a floodlit tennis court. Simple things like free airport shuttle and reliable Wi-Fi add a lot to the convenience.

Dining options are generous, with four restaurants, cafés, bars, and poolside food all available. The buffet breakfasts are good, and there’s a variety of cuisines. The staff are very professional, helpful, and attentive — service feels polished, and many guests mention this as a strong point.

A few things to watch: some rooms in the upper wings (e.g. the Dakota Wing) are pricier; occasional reports of minor maintenance issues in certain rooms do show up in reviews. But overall, these are small blemishes in an otherwise excellent stay.

Bottom line: If you want comfort, style, and ease (especially flying in or out of POM), Airways Hotel is one of the best choices. Great value for what they provide, and a very relaxing...

I have traveled extensively, and this hotel ranks among the best that I've experienced. If you enjoy the decor and history of a place and you appreciate the service that comes with a high-end hotel, then this is the place for you. You can get lost here, and it does need mentioning that if you have mobility issues, then you might not enjoy it as much. Some areas require walking to access (the gym is one). I will say that the food has a local or Aussie twist, and I tried most everything, but I still don't want baked beans for breakfast or vegemite(sp?) at all. The staff bends over backwards to assist and accommodate you. Mind you I've only been here two of the 11 days total but I'm sure my pleasure will only grow as I learn all the nooks and crannies.
