Rooms are very swish indeed, including air con that doesnât switch on unless youâve been checked in properly.
Pity that the carpet in our room wasnât properly vacuumedâthere was a rubber band and toothpick lying around. But otherwise the room was very clean.
Air con set to 20c lowest level which we found hot during the day with sun beating on windows. The Duty Manager agreed to adjust this for us to 18C.
Central location and good WIFI.
The negative is staff service, other than Day and Night Duty Managers who were superb in resolving issues.
We spent 40 minutes checking in because front desk couldnât find a booking. Once they found it, they wrongly told us that the room hadnât been paid for and that the credit card on file was expired. It took them calling accounting to stand corrected.
We also had issues with a shuttle booking and our request to have a packed breakfast for an early morning flight.
Our breakfast was waiting for us (a very nice cooked breakfast) at reception on time. Unfortunately, the kitchen hadnât marked it as being vegetarian and they combined our take away breakfasts with that of a group.
We had to enter the groupâs shuttle bus just as they were themselves heading to the airport, and ask each of them to open their food containers to find our mealsâŚ
While we were sorting this out, the shuttle driver decided to leave even though we were booked on his shuttle. The staff wanted us to wait about 25 minutes for the shuttle to return from the airport. Obviously unacceptable.
Thank goodness for Chris, the genial early morning duty manager from Bougainville. He personally drove us and got us to the airport before the official shuttle.
You can get some great advance purchase or last minute rates at the Hilton. But sometimes itâs more expensive than the Airways, which remains my preference while in POM.
Note they charge a cheeky extra 2% to use a...
Read moreI have stayed for countless hotels and for a Hilton brand, it is not what I have expected. First, the airport pickup, when I step outside the airport, there were some other hotel personnel standing by but no one from Hilton. I look around push my trolley toward the departure gates and parking area and find the Hilton service car. I ask the security guards for its driver and suddenly the door opens, the driver was sitting pretty inside. When we arrive in the hotel a lady greeted me with a trolley. I bring down my luggages, the driver just sitting. Second, at the reception, the lady just hand me some paper to sign and turnover my keycard without any welcome remarks or introduction of the hotels, amenities, facilities, where is the restaurants, pool or gym, nothing. The Feast restaurant have very limited seats and tables. For breakfast have lots of options to choose but for lunch amd dinner not that much and very expensive. The Copper Cafe Bar at the ground floor have different pricing though they get their food at the Feast kitchen. And the staff are not very attentive to guest. The cappucino coffee is somewhere between cold and warm. The room design are new with its amenities. Television channels are good with sports, news and movies to choose but not that much. Somehow, what I dont like is that they use the TV portal for their room dining service menu. When you need to order something you will exit what you were warching and you will miss a lot. There is not even a notepad, a ballpen or even a pencil. Laundry list dont even have an option for a special request or garments to be folded or hang when returned. There are 3 elevator but only 2 are in operations but the programming of its control are very slow. The security is very good and most of them are very friendly. Overall I enjoy my stay. Would definitely...
Read moreThe hard product is nice, and itâs definitely the Nicest hotel in Port Moresby. But dear god, the staff here are horrific and incompetent.
I was checked in and told I had free breakfast as a Hilton Diamond member (as is the case at every Hilton hotel). Upon finishing breakfast on the first morning, they tried to charge me for it and said only breakfast in the lounge was included, which was not explained at check in.
The front desk is inundated with guests all day, every day. Every time I needed something, I had to stand there and wait 30 minutes. This was especially problematic at checkout time when I had to get to the airport to catch a flight and was almost late. After 25 minutes of waiting, the four front desk staff hadnât helped a single person in line.
When I finally was able to check out, I used my remaining cash to pay toward the room rate, then paid with card for the remainder. The guy checking me out tried to scam me TWICE by claiming there was less cash than I gave him. I asked for the money back and counted it in front of him, which was 10 more than what he claimed. Even after that, he did the same thing with the coins. This is completely unacceptable. I expect this from locals in Port Moresby but not from a staff member at a major international hotel. I asked for his name and he refused to tell me, realizing he had been caught.
I rushed to the airport and barely made my flight. For such a nice hotel, the staff make it really difficult to have a...
