I booked this through Expedia. This place is listed very simple but they honestly should call themselves a resort. The gardens are fabulous and the caretakers are very friendly. They were happy to answer all my questions about their horticultural displays in their gardens. If you love orchids like I do you will not be disappointed. The view is beautiful and I give the breakfast five out of five stars. I gave this four out of five overall because it did not have Wi-Fi. That was a little frustrating because I picked this place over another because it was advertised as having Wi-Fi. this did not alter the price and there was no apology other than being told” the advertisement is old and we haven’t offered Wi-Fi for a long time” Although this is located right on a coastal area there is no beach access and it is not recommended to snorkel here. The pool is beautiful the gym is nicely equipped and they have a nice gift shop although it was closed my first day. I had to pay for my ride from the airport although it’s advertised as a complementary shuttle. it is not complementary but the price was reasonable at 40 Kina. Customers must pay cash only which could be inconvenient if you’re not traveling with cash. Get your cash before you arrive because there is no ATM. I would definitely recommend this place but don’t plan on Wi-Fi and cell service is challenging. The gardens are fabulous. I found it to be immaculately clean and I was very impressed. I’m a repeat visitor and will surely come back again if I am blessed to have...
Read moreThe Madang Lodge is one of those hotels not found very often in PNG, small, comfortable, friendly and relatively cheap. It is located on the foreshore about a kilometre south of the town. It has units for couples and families, and apartments for larger groups. The smaller units have A/C, ensuite, small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. The TV in our unit was a little old an difficult to use but the slightly more expensive units have flat screens. There is free wifi but it is erratic and patchy (as was the hotel phone). Nice restaurant and bar with good food reasonably priced. Also balcony dining with views over to the Finisterre ranges (3000m).They will cook fish you catch or buy from the local fish markets. Friendly, helpful staff with the girls mostly from Milne bay (apinun Shirley 😊). Friendly australian owner/manager Diane, who knows everyone and everything. Nice pool with shade and sea views.Beautiful landscaped gardens. 24 hour security. Hotel bus will take you...
Read moreNice enough rooms. We stayed in the budget room with only a fan and shared bathroom. Madang is not a walkable town, so the hotel has a car that will take you where you want to go for 5 Kina per person. The restaurant is terrible however. They have almost only western food, so we ordered a pizza and they actually managed to make it flavorless. They were also out of one ingredient, so they simply left it out without telling us. No compensation offered. Pretty sure they use no yeast in the crust, so it's basically like a cracker. We ate several meals (because there simply are no other options) and the Caesar Salad wasn't a Caesar Salad, the Carbonara wasn't a Carbonara (quite the feat to make that much cream flavorless by the way). We served unripe pineapple, which is rather strange in a country that grows its own pineapples. We were probably also given...
