We had a booking at McRoyal for the Hagen Show weekend. We had been trying to get in touch with them for a few weeks to confirm airport pickup, etc. with no response. We were getting concerned so we contacted Booking.com and finally got a response a couple of days before we were set to arrive via Booking and via FB messenger. Then the day before we were supposed to arrive, we received a message that their system online wasn't updated and mistakenly allowed us to book their regular rate of 480K/night ($150USD) instead of the "show weekend" rate of 800K/night ($250USD) and they would not honor the rate at which we had a confirmed booking for several weeks. Keep in mind, this is not a particularly nice, very basic hotel and their regular rate is already very expensive for what you are getting, even by PNG standards. While I understand having special event rates, but it was THEIR MISTAKE that they did not update their rates. If they had actually replied to my multiple emails, voicemails and messages, they could have informed me soon after I booked and then I would have had a few weeks to find other accommodations at a reasonable rate. (Highlander is much nicer and cheaper than 800k.night for a basic room.) Also, it's not like I was trying to get the room at 50 kina or some price at which they would have taken a loss. I had booked at their NORMAL rate! It’s unconscionable that they would not honor the confirmed rate that I had held for weeks. We refused to be scammed by this hotel and had to scramble to find another booking in less than 24 hrs. (We did.) It was completely ridiculous and honestly should be illegal. Don't book here! Go to Highlander and if they don't have availability, get a deluxe room at Kimininga. Anywhere but McRoyal!||||P.S. We went by the hotel on the way to our hotel. The location is way out from the center but also not very close to the airport. Just in the...
Read moreMcRoyal has the best location if you are needing to stay closer to the airport. The food is served in large portions and I particularly enjoyed their Caesar Salad and Chips. Although, I suggest they reconsider how they set cutlery on the dining tables of the restaurant.||||I would say the rooms are average and in need of modern interior designing. I would also suggest the management consider providing a business centre for its clients because their office scanner was not functional so I had scan my business documents with my phone scanner (that sucked). WiFi is unavailable at McRoyal, but I hope management has plans to include that soon. WiFi is a must for all hotels in urban areas.||||McRoyal expanding and soon to open their newly constructed wing, which will bring new life to the hotel. So I'm looking forward to come around in the future to experience the new hotel wing. ||||The customer service is friendly but should have regular in-house hospitality training to maintain the level of professionalism.||||Overall, as a local traveller, based on the current service I experienced, I would give this hotel,...
Read moreProximity to the airport makes for a great location. The security is good and you feel safe there. The rooms are big and the bed was reasonably comfortable.
My room had two armchairs that were in front of the tv, but they were very uncomfortable to sit on. Although there was no point in using the as the tv didn't work anyway. The fluorescent lights also didn't work and needed new ballasts or starters. They have WiFi but didn't want to give out the password and when you finally got it the connection was very slow. The water is temperamental going off a couple times during the day.
The restaurant meals were good value and generous portions. Very tasty as Well.
All in all it was a...
