Finca El Gaucho — Hotel in Cordillera Department

The hotel is situated not far from San Bernardino, in the middle of a lush tropical garden, in high terrain offering wonderful views of the Lake of Ypacaray in the distance. I have had many wonderful lunches at the restaurant over a span of years and have never been disappointed. The menu is limited, but what they offer is without doubt of the best quality and excellently well-prepared and served. The owner is German and speaks good English as well as Spanish.||At the last occasion, the other guests chose the Medallions of Beef Sirloin (Medallones de Lomo) and I chose the Cassava Fritters with Garlic Sauce (Tortillitas de Mandioca con Salsa de Ajo). Everything was absolutely delicious. The owner/chef has a way with seasoning that makes even the most pedestrian vegetable taste heavenly.||The hotel has spacious rooms in the main house, as well as more private accomodations in bungalows throughout the large property. Die "Finca El Gaucho" ist sowohl Hotel als auch Restaurant. Das Hotel ist ideal zum Entspannen vom wilden Treiben in Asunción und bietet das, was andere Orte in der Umgebung nicht bieten: Ruhe, ein sauberes, gediegenes Ambiente und hohe Erholungsqualität. Es gibt Doppel- und Dreibettzimmer sowie ein Bungalow mit eigener Küche und eigenem Gartenbereich. Der weitläufige grüne Garten lädt zum Schlendern, zum Grillen und einfach nur zum Genießen der Aussicht ein. Dazu gibt es einen Pool und mehrere Grillstellen. Alles ist hervorragend gepflegt, man erkennt sofort die deutsche Handschrift im Management.||Das Restaurant, das unabhängig vom Hotelbetrieb zu besuchen ist, lockt mit erstklassiger internationalen und vor allem schwäbischer Küche. Die großen kulinarischen Chancen, die das hervorragende paraguayische Fleisch bietet, werden hier bestens genutzt: Das Lomito ist nicht nur zart, sondern genau auf den Punkt wie bestellt zubereitet - eine absolute Seltenheit in Paraguay, wo man das Fleisch eher totbrät. Dazu gibt es erlesene Beilagen und bestens abgeschmeckte Saucen. Der Kaffee nach dem Essen hat italienische Qualität - ebenfalls eine Seltenheit in Paraguay. Das ganze kombiniert mit dem einzigartigen Blick in wunderbarer Natur macht das El Gaucho zu einem Ort, den man sich nicht entgehen lassen sollte.||Notwendig ist allerdings Geduld und ein gut gefedertes Auto, denn das El Gaucho liegt auf einem Hügel bei Altos, dessen letzte Kilometer auf einer Erdstraße zurückzulegen sind.
