I was very surprised to see what a low grade this lodge has. I believe this is probably because people did not take into account the reason for which the lodge was built - spending the night there after a long day of hiking in the Colca Canyon.
They seem to have made a lot of improvements recently:
the facility has electricity and wifi now (we were told this is a recent investement) they have hot water to take a shower
Even without the things mentioned above, I find the accommodation amazing because:
They have a pool with an amazing view of the canyon. Relaxing in the pool after a long hike is awesome You have a private bathroom in your room. I find this to be a luxury for accommodations built on the hiking trails There is a bar where you can buy a cold beer (or even classic cocktails like pisco sour, mojito, etc) The food at the restaurant is amazing.
Yes, you have to pay for toilet paper if you didn’t bring one, or rent the towels from them and other small things, but I still find the conditions incredible given where...
Read moreThe place itself is ok but the service is horror, especially from the owner, who:||||⁃ Didn’t want to give me a room with private bathroom, because I couldn’t share my room with anyone (our tour group had an uneven number). Hence, I was the only one that had to use the outside bathroom, which is a 5-minute walk, and only had cold water in the shower;||⁃ The vegetarian meals are really light, just a few cooked vegetables. When I asked for some extra rice because I needed a heavier meal, especially after a hike of 6 hours, the owner didn’t want to give this;||⁃ 3 times (!) the owner didn’t give enough change back at the bar. After correcting him, he finally did;||⁃ Staff members where taking pictures of us and the girls in their bikinis when we were using the pool. We don’t know why and if it had a (non-personal) reason, but it would be nice to ask beforehand. It made the girls uncomfortable to use the pool. ||||MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR & BE AWARE...
Read moreWe booked this hotel via Pachamama in Cabanaconde. We had better experiences than most people as we had a room away from the main area (no. 28 I think). It had an attached toilet and shower and a lock on the door. We got this for $15 so weren't expecting much (especially the attached bathroom).||Anything available here has to be carried down by mule, hence the lack of toilet paper and soap (we're experienced enough to carry our own). There was no electricity in our room, but again we managed without.||The pools looked clean though we didn't try them. The meals were very basic as they mainly cater for tour groups who have paid very little for their trip.||A little gripe was the 5 soles they require for internet - we didn't bother, especially as we were in the middle of nowhere and didn't want to read about Donald Trump while we were there.||Basically, don't expect much. If you're worried about sheet cleanliness, being a...
