Posada del Puruay — Hotel in Cajamarca

We stayed for 3 nights and traveled with 2 small kids. The hotel was very accommodating and added an extra bed to the (huge!) room. (They put a mattress on the floor without a frame.) The setting and kid play area are both very nice, you see this in the pictures. They have horses which are tied to trees in the play area but didn't seem to bother anyone. ||Restaurant: we ate lunch once. It is ok for Cajamarca. Breakfast is like another reviewer said: undercooked eggs and stale bread. We had the bread fresh in town and it's great but the hotel seems to buy it a day or two before serving it for breakfast. The eggs and juice and bread are included with breakfast. They will do a fruit plate for extra charge but nothing else is offered. Service was typical for Peru, you had to hunt down the waiter and insist on service.||The rooms: huge. We had 3 beds and still lots of room. A fridge. The bathroom shower was half broken and I couldn't get the water to go all to the shower. There was obvious water damage and cement falling off a hole behind the toilet. The shower caused a huge puddle on the floor, so something is wrong there. It was a very quiet room. Light tight too!! That was great.||Saturday they held a baby shower in the main restaurant so that part was closed and they also held a wedding party outside. This was from 3-930 pm. It was super noisy. |We picked a quiet place and got quiet 2 nights but Saturday wasn't quiet. Lots of cars and people and noise. ||The posada is 20 minutes out of town. When you need a cab they call one. Then you go on a bumpy road to town. ||I wouldn't stay here again because it is too far from town and holds noisy weddings and events. It's easier to stay in town and see the sights. That said, if you plan to take advantage of the horses and play area it may be worth it. Just don't stay if they have a...

Very cold, very noisy rooms, especially the ones on the courtyard right above the restaurant. There was a group when we were there, having dinner until late, which made our nights hell, even though the place is pretty exceptional when silent.||This is a place unhappy to receive individual clients, that should focus on weddings and big receptions, their main activity. They should not figure in any guide, except perhaps for having lunch as the restaurant serves excellent fresh food, and to take a walk in the somptuous countryside.|When in most hotels nothing seems like much trouble here everything seems like trouble. It would be alright if it was very cheap but it is not. It's a shame because it's the first time since we started our trip that we were able to have nice salads and soups, and be in a very quiet place, at times!|It was winter, very cold at night, and the second day the cleaner took our blankets away and then there were no more as everything was in short numbers ( we were only allowed one bedside table for two as there were 'other clients'). There were also no bulbs in the lamp, nor in another lamp in the room.||Unfriendly, unamenable staff, who were not ready to part with any information about anything, and i speak Spanish! No help on walks to do around, or on any of the so-called activities that they offer. ||Breakfast was particularly stingy, with no choice, no alternative options besides eggs and breads, something unusual in Peru where food is served...

Had afternoon lunch here, the grounds were very nice and there were different play areas and activities for adults. The furnishings in the restaurant and library (fireplace seating area) we’re very nice. The dining area we sat in was a glass in closed roof also had a view of the surrounding mountains very tall and serene. The 1st course we had omitas they were just average. The main course was a ravioli with a mushroom ragu and a side steak with a berry glaze. Extremely good! I wanted more the steak cooked med rare. The down side as many places here (Peru) the waitstaff have no training or it doesn’t show. This is considered a high end place by standards here. The main course came out with the appetizers and dessert was served with a dish holding spoons for everyone.
