Had a wonderful stay at La Casona in Chimbote! Willie, the owner, went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. His mom and his worker did the same. Breakfast was provided each morning, whenever we wanted it! He made me a coffee with cacao the first day that was so good I had it each day thereafter. I also really loved the juice made with different fresh fruit including mango, strawberries, pineapple etc. Even when we would get back late at night Willie was always up and never seemed bothered. He was even willing to stay up with us, asking about our day as we had a glass of wine in the bar. Willie's English is quite good and we were able to have long conversations despite our limited knowledge of Spanish. One person in our party had been there multiple times before and keeps returning which is what we plan to do. There is wifi, a pool and a sauna. The rooms were spacious, nice and comfortable; especially for the price. From upstairs there was a view of the grounds of the school across the street. I enjoyed looking at what school was like for Peruvian kids. . Overall I highly recommend this...
Read moreFirst off, the hostal exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for a place to stay in Chimbote, there are many reasons to spend the night at La Vieja Casona Hostal. Willy treats the guests like family. His English is very good, and he makes a delicious breakfast for you each morning. He is also a very good bartender. One night friends and I enjoyed Willy's special maracuya sours down by the pool. It is like an oasis there! In addition, the hotel is very quiet, and getting a good night's sleep is easy. If you are worried about the heat, the hostal also has air conditioning. The location is between downtown Chimbote and Nuevo Chimbote, which means you are close to everything. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to Chimbote, so I can stay at the hotel with Willy and his mom! It will feel like...
Read moreWe stayed here in April 2015 and arrived very late with 3 kids, including a 2 year old. Tired, worn out and hungry, Willie greeted us and he immediately ordered food from a local restaurant; we had not even checked in yet!||After we ate, we made it into our spacious rooms and slept well. The next morning we had a home cooked breakfast prepared by Willie with amazing conversation regarding global affairs and his personal experiences. It was very engaging; the kind of discourse any swanky coffee shop would envy. Of course, the kids took advantage of the pool that morning and made the rest of our trip pleasant for all later that day. While indeed the area may be somewhat questionable at first, La Vieja Casona's charm and impeccable host transforms it into its own...
