An experience with small ups and huge downs. In the end we left quite upset. We didn't want to book through booking as it costs more for the owners and guests so we went there directly, a mistake as it turned out. A really nice older woman told us that it will be only 40 soles in total for a doublebed room. We were positively surprised. We were hungry after the hike and happy that they've offered food already in the afternoon. However, this burger was the worst I've ever had! It was cold, the "chicken" was terrible and couldn't be recognised as that and of course, I directly got belly pain. The room as basically bamboo sticked together with a cloth. Then I can also just sleep outside. For dinner we had lomo saltado and trucha. Both bad in taste and blend. The meat was super chewy. And with 30/35 soles quite expensive. The craziest thing happened then: while still eating we were prompted to already pay for everything. That I already found quite uncomfortable and stressing. So we went to the counter, and the guy asked us how much we were told to pay. So we told him that the nice lady told us 40 soles. He said that's wrong and tried to explain it that it was 40 for both. This is ofc wrong as we even booked without breakfast and even on booking with breakfast it's only 70 soles. In the end we had to pay 70 soles although we made clear that we don't want breakfast. You try to be nice and book directly there instead of booking.com but in the end they take advantage of that and scam you. Another thing is that they only offer breakfast from 6:30 onwards, what is way to late if you want to hike. But the best part is still about to come: while we were discussing about the prices, our food was carried and thrown away (!!!!). We paid already and they didn't want to give us the money back although I have only just started eating! In the end we had to argue that we at least even get some sandwiches, which is ridiculous. The only good thing about this place are the thermal baths and the old nice lady that unfortunately does not seem to have the lead there.

We also stayed in the Virginias Lodge above this one. The people there were super nice and helpful, the food way better and cheaper and the rooms actual rooms. Just the pools are not as good. Would still recommend it...

On entering the dirty , dusty floored reception/ dining room/ bar you pass by the filthy kitchen. We ate tasty fried egg & chips & worked hard to ignore the kitchen they had come from. The dining room is veranda style & open to the air. Lovely view of river but bare wires & bare bulbs ( filthy & fly encrusted) hanging from ceiling in dirty, uncared for & unloved dining room/ reception/ bar. The whole place including bedroom & bathroom needs a deep clean & then regular cleaning to maintain an acceptable basic standard of cleanliness & hygiene. |The bed linen was clean but the walls & floor of the wooden bedroom cabin had many dead insects on them. The toilet & wash basin were clean but the shower had dead insects in the shower tray & the shower head was filthy.|The cabins were in lovely grassy river location with table, chairs & flowers outside cabin. This good attention to detail needs to extend to interior bedrooms, bathrooms & dining room. As we checked out the hotelier was watching football on TV in hotel entrance. His time should have been used cleaning.Even when paying budget price a basic level of cleanliness & hygiene are...

This place has a lot of charm, being a bit rustic, very quiet and kinda isolated. Not only was the family owning and running the place really nice and open but the place itself was pleasant. The facilities are simple but they're all there and clean. The lodges and gardens around them are quite relaxing.

The beds were very comfortable. They come with enough blankets to go through the cold night. All 3 meals were tasty and filling (and vegetarian friendly).

Food and drinks are not overpriced (albeit some items are a couple Soles more expensive then in a supermarket, but this is of course due to the isolation of the place).

The cherry on top of the view of the canyon and river, and the peace and quiet: pools of naturally warmed water right next to the river (perfect to relax soar muscles after a hike). I would return there without any hesitation.

Thank you for your welcome and for managing the place with so...

A very basic but lovely place nestled in a beautiful valley. The hot springs are the main attraction, and they’re truly amazing after a day of hiking perfect for relaxing and plunge into the cold river and back to the warm pools. The staff was friendly and really hard working and finally we ended up staying two nights so we could also hike to the waterfall. It’s a bit demanding trek (around 20 km round trip) on completely remote trails but worthy. The food isn’t cheap on Peruvian standards (30 sol for alpaca stew, 20 sol for vegetarian menu) and it’s quite simple — but hey, you’re deep in a valley! Instead of complaining (like so many whining Western travellers around here), just enjoy the setting (or better yet, bring your own food). The bungalows are basic but comfy beds and really warm blankets.

Review of day visit to hot springs The springs are nice, hot and clean. They are in a stunning location and they were very quiet when we were there (1pm - 3pm), I would guess that they get busier later when the hikers arrive. Take insect repellent! Having a private 4wd transfer to the springs for a few hours is the best way to go to the base of the canyon if you are unable to hike, we loved it! Please note there is a 10 minute walk from the carpark to the hot springs which is relatively steep in sections (manageable for me with painful knees though!).

What a relief it was to arrive here after our first day trekking through the canyon. It was nice to have our own "shed" with private bathroom and towels. Swimming pools look dated but water is warm. We couldn't enjoy the thermal baths at this time of year (February) due to the river being too high and covering them. There's a full bar and the main room has music, a pool table and various games. Food was good enough too. Possible to pay in dollars but not by card. The view alone is worth coming here for.
