Firstly, google maps gives the wrong location for this wonderful hostel - it puts it a 20 minute walk away in a different part of town, which is in fact a concrete building and definitely not a hostel. The real hostel is a couple of blocks from the Plaza, very close to where combis and Virgen Del Carmen buses drop you off.
Secondly, this hostel is amazing. Rosario's hospitality, as another reviewer mentions, is amazing. We woke her up at 3am when our bus arrived but she quickly put us in sparkling clean rooms despite us having no reservation, and allowed us to have breakfast later than normal as we had arrived so late.
The breakfasts are incredible! We had the regional, which came with heaps of toast, homemade jam (best in Peru so far), and over three mornings, a mix of tamales, humitas, scrambled eggs, and Leymabamba cheese with fresh juice and coffee, all very reasonably priced.
Rooms are lovely - although the wifi isn't too strong, this is Peru after all - and everything was clean and working. Showers were warmer than many I've had in Peru, and beds were very comfy. Rosario gave us the option to leave our luggage with her for three days while we went away trekking, and offered us help with finding a guide (although we already had one found!).
Rates were 30 soles for a single room, 50 soles for a twin room, and 10 soles per person for a breakfast. Given the quality of rooms and breakfast, this is a more than reasonable price. If you're passing through, head to this...
Read moreWonderful hotel, we paid 100 sols for triple room, it was great. Also had a fantastic breakfast for 12 sols, the owner is very kind, she helped us get bus tickets and extra cash.
Take money with you there’s no atms, also buses to Celedin go at night like 8pm, 40 sols so be ready for that. Don’t use the shop keeper on the corner who sells bus tickets, he is just a robber he tried charging us 60 sols each he knew we were stuck. The bus seller on the right hand side of square is nice they have a whiteboard outside with the time. Great place for walks, museum is 30 sols for gringos, but worth it to see the mummies, pay 10 sols to get their in taxi. Afterwards, come out and turn right walk up the hill a bit and then your see a secret path that the locals use all the way back to town, very...
Read moreWe couldn’t find hostels via Booking.com so we just went to the little cosy town of Leymebamba and asked at La Joya Hostel if they had a room for us (after reading the good reviews here). The owner she is very friendly and helpful. She prepared an very early and full and filling breakfast before we went on our unguided Laguna de los Condores trek so we won’t be hungry till 1 pm, excellent! After we arrived back we checked in again and it started to feel so familiar. She even invited us (and some other friends who checked in as well here) to their family birthday party with a dinner and some dancing. She really made us feel welcome and at home. Muchas gracias por todos! The room is also spacious, the bed comfortable, the wifi fast and the shower strong and hot. Definitely a great...
