We went to hostal casa punta negra to celebrate new years eve 2014 and stayed for three nights. They didnt have any rooms with an ocean view left so we got rooms without a view. Which were alright, clean and everything, but felt a bit stuffy since there were no windows to let the air in. The hostal in itself looks nice, its clean, the common areas are nice and the location is good. The problems we had were with the service we received from the staff.||||We had been assured that there was a fridge and a kitchen that we would could use. But when we arrived they had filled the whole fridge with their own stuff (i.e. beer that they were selling) and there was no room for our stuff. There was also no kitchen, as this was used to sell overpriced dished in their restaurant (25 soles per dish, compared to about 15-20 being the general price for a dish in punta negra at other restaurants). We had also been told that we had two breakfastes included for all of us (we were four people). But when we asked for the breakfast this was suddenly not possibly and we had to argue for them to give us breakfast only one day. ||||They also do not have the wifi that they claim on their web page to have. Several of the days there was no electricity or water, and both of these kind of came and went randomly. In the fours days we were there I only found water and electricity both at the same time so that I could take a hot shower (you need an electric device to get hot water). Several nights we had to go to bed with dirty feet and faces, because there was no water. And I guess you can imagine that its not nice to not have water to flush the toilets..||||We also had troubles with the couple attending the hostal, who generally didnt give alot of service. They generally just made everything more complicated for us. We were told not to use the common areas, the balconies in front of the rooms, because some people claimed that their children couldnt sleep because of us. We were only have quiet conversations, and also, a hostal is usually a place for young people to hang out and have a good time, not for the owners to accomodate everything for families with children. If people now their children are sensible to sound, they shouldnt go to a hostal for new years eve.. This is something that the owners should have known and communicated to the guests. These areas seemed to be for free use for everybody when we checked out the webpages. ||||The last point I want to make is also about bad service. We were told that the checkout was at noon, so we thought we would make the best of the last day, get up early and go to the beach for some hours before the checkout. This was we could use the toilet and take a shower before we left for Lima. When we were leaving at 9 in the morning, we were told that we couldnt leave our rooms now and that we would have to check out before we went to the beach. We told them no way, and went to the beach anyway, but it didnt leave us a very good impression about their hostal. ||||So guys, if you want to go to punta negra, you might as well just buy a tent and sleep on the beach. It's free and also safe, and since you wont have water or elecricity in the hostal anyway, you can save your 100 soles a night and spend it on...
Read moreI grew up in Lima but now live in the USA. I used to visit Punta Negra and San Bartolo as a kid.. and finally got to take my entire family there for vacation. Casa Punta Negra was so special. It's in a very quiet and secluded area called Santa Rosa Alta. The sunsets are amazing and the service was really great. The staff was bilingual which was so helpful because my children don't speak Spanish and my mother doesn't speak English. We rented rooms 2 and 4 which had an adjoining terrace with ocean views. Just spectacular. My experience was just so down to earth and I recommend this place and the surrounding beach towns to anyone wanting to escape from busy...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked in I felt like I was at home with family. Friendly, snuggly cats and dogs, fresh (delicious, local!) coffee brewing, and clean filtered water in the common area. My room was clean and basic, fresh towels a little bar of soap and a roll of toilet paper to call my own. Gigi and Dario were always open-armed, openhearted, extra helpful, and discerning enough to keep a quiet, respectful space at all times. ...
