-- DO NOT STAY HERE -- SCAM, UNCLEAN, BAD STAFF, AWFUL LOCATION.
Possibly the worst hostel experience of my life.
Firstly, the area is dangerous - not only is there a lack of public transport, the roads are busy, the area has very 'unfriendly characters' and there's little you can access from here.
You will be overcharged, a theme through these comments is the front desk to scam you: they attempted to double the price for me, and when I contested they used their own exchange rate (not the official one, not hostelworld's) and charged an extra two nights. Any protest was met with feigned ignorance which melted away as soon as payment was made. They claimed breakfast is included on their website, it is not and it is overpriced for what you get - you can find vendors across the city offering the same for half the price.
The room itself was atrocious - the electrics were exposed, mould was painted over on the walls, there was a layer of filth and untidiness, the water didn't work in the shower, the bins hadn't been taken out (you cannot flush toilet paper in Peru for those unaware) making the place smell like an unflushed toilet, animals roamed the rooftop which was entirely exposed, you can hear traffic at all hours and what I can only guess is some kind of warning siren. Overall, there wasn't anything redeeming about it. Having just spent a week in the mountains I'd rather be laying out on a rock.
When leaving the room to go and explore the city, they accessed it (not to clean) but the only visible difference was a footprint on the bed (accessing a light which was already functional). I am glad I locked my bags because they were moved.
You can get to the airport quicker from Miraflores by taxi, it has comparable prices in a nicer area and you should not come anywhere close to this hostel. I am currently filing reclamation forms and contacting hostelworld to make...
Read moreOur family of five (including three tall teenagers) stayed in the ensuite triple one night. It was a tight fit. We had warm showers. The bedsheets were worn thin, but clean. When booking, I explained our need for taxi service for five adults to and from the airport. Pay Purix responded with instructions for meeting our driver and a price. On our travel day, Pay Purix sent me an email saying the taxi charge would be greater than previously agreed because there were five of us. And yet the taxi ended up being just a small SUV where one of us had to lay across the other three to fit in the backseat. When we arrived at the hostel's front desk that night, I was told we would have to have two taxis pick us up the next morning for our trip back to the airport. That cost was added to our bill, which I paid. Only one taxi came for us the next morning, so we had to squish into the...
Read moreHad an issue with a booking there so we were considering getting another room even though the two options were not ideal (one was really expensive and the other was sharing with 12 people). Our cards weren't working so we asked where to withdraw cash in the area, we were told the atm was only a short walk away - ended up being a 30 min walk at night down a dark and unpleasant street - they agreed to hold our bags while we went to withdraw cash but when we got back the rooms were booked and they tried to charge us 12 soles for holding our bags for an hour in an open common room area where anybody could've walked in and stolen our things. Very unhappy with the service and with the attitude of the guy we dealt with when we got back...
