We stayed here for three nights after finding a package on the hotel's website that included a whale-watching boat tour. For the most part, we felt the package offered good value, although the weather wasn't warm enough to really enjoy the pool or the beach. The room had a nice balcony with sea view and comfortable deck chairs. I was surprised to find out that there was no television in the rooms and even more so to see that there was no wi-fi. I don't mind going without a TV but I noticed that many of the other hotels in Vichayito do have internet and I wondered why this one doesn't. ||||I work at a US travel company in Peru, but we are not particularly demanding travelers ourselves and in the last 3 years have stayed at hotels all over Peru from backpackers' hostels to five-star hotels. Whilst we liked the design and layout of the hotel, we felt that anyone who needs even the slightest thing during their stay will come away feeling dissatisfied with the level of service at Cabanas de Antica. ||||The administrator at this hotel was the most unhelpful person we have come across in any of the hotels we have stayed at in Peru. Our car's battery died on the second day and the only other car along the deserted stretch of road that runs through Vichayito was her car, next to it. She was sitting in her office just across the road and my boyfriend asked her if she would mind if we connected our car battery to hers just long enough to get it started. Without even looking up, she just said, "No, get them to push you" - referring to the security guard and a mototaxi driver standing outside. Completely astonished by that response, we went back outside and ended up getting the car started with the help of a taxi driver who just happened to be passing through and was willing to give up an hour of his time, luckily for us. We are used to hotel staff going out of their way to help when you need something, but we could tell that this woman doesn't have the slightest interest in helping the guests with anything they need, even when it is something so simple as what we were asking. ||||Our next complaint, which will be more relevant to the average guest, was that the shower in our room was downright dangerous. Despite the slippery tiles, there was no non-slip mat on the floor, nor any surfaces or railings you could hold onto if you slipped. As a result my boyfriend fell and cut his foot and his hand. It was lucky he didn't do anything worse. ||||The next major issue was the so-called buffet breakfast. When we got to the restaurant, we found a table offering only tiny bread rolls, butter, jam, and some cubes of cake. The waiter told us we could order eggs, omelettes, etc. so of course we went ahead and ordered them, assuming that this was part of the buffet service as we weren't told otherwise. We ordered eggs on two mornings and were never told by the waiter that there was an additional charge for these, nor given any prices. We had no idea that they were not included until we checked out and found them on the bill. To me, this is just inexcusable. It would have taken such little effort to inform us that we had to pay extra for the eggs and at least give us the choice as to whether we wanted to pay for them or not (I would NEVER have opted to pay 7 soles for one fried egg!), but instead this negligence ended up compounding our low opinion of the service right at the last minute. ||||I am sure no hotel owner wants their guests departing their hotel with that kind of impression, but no effort was made to make us feel otherwise. The guy at reception just said nothing when we complained, and later, when we asked for someone to come to our room so that we could talk over our complaints, no-one even bothered to show up. ||||In summary, this is a nice place to relax if you want to disconnect from the world. It is a 15-minute mototaxi ride to Mancora and Los Organos if you want to eat at a different restaurant from the one at the hotel. I am sure it is even nicer in the summer when the weather is warm enough to enjoy the pool. I liked that there is a separate area for families and for couples as that allows for more privacy and space. However, I can't completely recommend this place because I was just so disappointed by the service. It is so important for hotel management to train their staff properly, and I felt that the staff here either didn't care or weren't trained well enough to...

However, it was better to drive that far each day than to stay in Talara. ||||I had a room in the building across the street from the main campus. The main campus has the restaurants, the cabanas, the office, and most importantly, the beach. The building across the street has rooms, suites, a gorgeous pool and lounging area and a small bar. ||||My room was great. King bed. Flat screen TV with satellite TV with a few English speaking channels. Sofa and coffee table. Great bathroom and shower. Huge balcony with 2 lounge chairs facing the beach. I had absolutely no issues with my room.||||The resort has several restaurants. I ate there every night for two weeks. There was enough variety to keep me happy. The chichirones were outstanding as was the ceviche. The pizzas were also very good.||||Service was impeccable. First off, I do not speak Spanish. Enough of the staff spoke English well enough to get by. Some spoke it fluently. Even those that didn't speak English went out of their way to understand me or find someone that could help.||||I can't say enough good things about this establishment. I may be traveling back to Talara for business and if I do, I will...
Read moreNot worth it. My husband and I came here to spend a few days to relax. We were very disappointed, first at arrival the person at the desk was either new at work or has never worked at a hotel. I gave him are names and then he went inside the office to talk to another person. He came out and started to talk to another guest and when I said to him to finish with us first, he said that the the other employee was going to take us to our room. How was I supposed to know? No communication of that at all, the girl then picked up our luggage and said to follow her.|We were hot and sweaty from our hour ride from Talara airport, and were looking forward to a cool room but there was NO AC, another disappointment. We showered and went to the restaurant area were I waited 15 minutes and no one came to ask if I needed a drink or food; I had to call someone to get service. Food was ok, we were hungry so we eat. |Later we decided to take a walk not far from the hotel where there were other two hotels we saw on our way to our hotel. Vichayito hotel and Rústica hotel, we liked the latter one so we had lunch and dinner there for the next couple of days. |If you are looking for a good time to relax this is NOT the place....
