We stayed here for the 2nd time as a family, for 3 nights, but probably will not be back. ||||On the plus side, the location - on the banks of the Cañete River, 5 mins up the road from Lunahuana - is great; and the pool with a water slide was a real hit with the kids. There is also a small adventure playground. ||||The restaurant is open all day, and the food is decent, but a little overpriced, by Peruvian standards, with starters costing from $7 and main courses from $10, approx. ||||Breakfast was included in the room price, but is an uninspiring buffet of cereal, yoghurt, bread, cheese & ham and scrambled eggs, washed down with pineapple or papaya juice and coffee. Crying out for some fresh fruit and vegetables, especially given that Lunahuana is an agricultural zone, renowned for avocados, grapes, apples, papaya, among others. ||||Breakfast was meant to start at 8am, but that was not the case on the days we were there. ||||The gym has 4 decent machines, but its position near the pool and next to the sauna and toilets, does mean that kids tend to wander in, keen to play with the equipment, which is distracting. ||||There is free WiFi, but it is very weak. I suspect this is not the fault of the hotel, however, given its location in a steep valley, but it shouldn’t be used as a selling point. ||||Our room (#204) had 4 beds crammed into what was basically a twin bedroom, meaning that access to the shelves and fridge, and to the terrace, was impeded. There was one bedside table with lamp, plus a small table and two chairs. ||||The room had A/C and a ceiling fan, neither of which we found necessary, but may have been welcome at hotter times of the year. ||||The terrace is quite spacious, but as it overlooks the car park and main road, and had no furniture on it whatsoever, was pretty much redundant. ||||Given that the hotel seems geared to families, though, the decision to start karaoke in the small hotel bar every night at 11.30pm does seem a strange one. The noise of awful singing travels throughout the hotel, and is especially bad, if you have a room near the front. ||||Overall, the hotel attracts people from the suburbs of Lima, keen to spend time in the countryside, but unable to leave the trappings of city life (i.e. smartphones, loud music, TV) behind. ||||It cost about $150 a night for the 4-person bedroom, which again doesn’t really feel like value, for what is essentially a functional and charmless property. It had the air of a hotel where the owner hadn’t set foot in the place for a long while. I’ve no way of knowing if this is true, but there didn’t seem to be anyone in charge and setting standards. The staff were not unpleasant, just...
Read moreThe check-in process was relatively quick. Context: This is a school trip. We arrived with 12 kids and five adults.||When we were called to eat lunch at the resort’s restaurant (included in the tour), we were served ridiculous food portions. I called the resort manager, Fernando Blanco, to see what happened, but he gave me an attitude, indicating that we were supposed to get kid-size meals, and that is precisely what we got, he said. I will attach pictures of the servings to judge for yourselves. If you receive a kid's meal, the portion should be smaller, not having the chicken fillet cut in half even more; when I inquired with the tour supervisor, he said that we paid for a whole serving, not a kid's meal. Therefore the resort manager, Fernando Blanco, blatantly lied to me. The person in charge of the tour company fixed it after my complaint, but the resort manager did not even say sorry or that everything was a big misunderstanding. Not a place I would recommend if you talk about quality and excellent service, which is expected at resorts.||A resort manager should be presented showing charisma and customer service, not giving an attitude, even if his day...
Read moreThis is a 3 star hotel with a 2 star service. We stayed for 5 days. Rooms were very poorly equiped with uncomfortable old beds and worse pillows. The gym is non existant and a real joke, sauna is in reality a dirty, small and stinky steam room. Restaurant was a biiig fail and included breakfast was poor to say the best. You can eat breakfast across the street in little bodega better for 3 soles per person and other meals in the Lunahuana for far less than they charge and much better quality. Only on the weekend they gave us the semi-decent breakfast and inly becouse the hotel started to fill up. The only good thing is, that we were almost alone until weekend and it was peacefull, and the heated swimingpool was nice. For the price they charge and location I expected a real 5 star hotel. Unfortunately this is not the case. They have a long way to go to get to that imaginary and most likely self assigned 5 stars. However this is the best hotel in the...
