15 years ago we stayed at this Hacienda Hotel. We decided to return to celebrate my 70th birthday to revisit this enchanting hotel and have another joy ride over the Nazca Lines. The food was excellent then and ground, buildings and pool in top condition. It was very enchanting. |The staff worked very hard at providing guess assistance and services. |We were somewhat disappointed to see how poorly maintained all the facilities were. The worst was the pool. In four days the pool pump did not worked to allow water circulation and chlorination . The water level fell way below the spillers and a build up of algae all around the pool was noticeable , the waterfalls did not worked and the thatch roof above the pool bar was caving. We do have a pool and this situation could be a health hazard. The hotel received numerous non guess, paying a fee to spend the day at the pool with young children. |The peacocks are gone and have been replaced by roosters that coockledoodle annoyingly all day long. They are used for cock fights. There is a concrete arena with cages set up on the ground and the bar and tv room display many cock fights trophies. |The food is somewhat eatable if you enjoy fast food. The best dish is the spaghetti bolongnaise (meatball). |We tried the “filet mignon” please avoid at all cost. It must have been mommyfied horse soaked in some kind of sauce in an effort to bring it back to life. |Our last night, we were awakened by a 7.3 earthquake at 4:18 in the morning. No staff besides the one security guard which was hysterical and not much help or assistance to the few guests there. |Thanks to the wisdom of the original owner, the main building suffered only minor damages. The building is all concrete thus why light damages. |Investing in general maintenance and repairs would do a lot of good to...
Read moreThis hacienda with its Spanish-style architecture provides the history and the gardens ,||with their desert greenery and bird life , further enhance this richness. i loved the serenity of this place.||Our room was spacious with 2 Queen platform beds ( a bit hard but not too bad), desk with 2 chairs, wardrobe and armchair. Everything was provided for the guest,s comfort:||Extra blankets, pillows, bathrobes, slippers and a minibar with drinks and snacks.||The bathroom had a tub shower but was roomy enough.||The whole hacienda was huge including the open-air dining room which seemed a little empty at times.||The breakfast was served individually and included yoghurt, fruit, toast, jam, cereal & eggs if you wished.||Lunch and dinner were ordered from a menu with an item such as fish unavailable on occasion due to particular circumstances. The food was generally quite good but the service slightly erratic as to timing.||On the grounds was a pen with 2 ostriches who seemed happy and in a tree out front was a monkey ( on a leash because he or she used to constantly steal from guests) who very much enjoys chocolate.we didn't feel that comfortable with the monkey being on a long chain although he or she looked happy.||In addition, in the early morning you could hear roosters making a racket. Apparently, these are fighting cocks as cock fighting is legal in Peru.||So being in the countryside, you get both the good and bad. Nearby are pre-Inca Aquaducts of Oconcayo which are interesting and impressive.||The purchase of a ticket to this site, I believe, gives you entry to 2 other sites we visited:La Agujas de Cantallo - the lines of El Telar - The Loom and then Las Paredones - Inca and Nazca ruins. All these sites are...
Read moreWe were the only guests staying in the resort! Lucky it was only one night. Flies greeted us in the lobby and all around the resort. They disappeared after the sunset. The room has been sprayed before we checked in and had a heavy odor which we had to open the windows since they had screens. The bathroom was low maintenance where the knobs were not functioning well and the water was leaking.||There was a security door man, a receptionist, a man that handles luggage, cleaning, maintenance and act as a waiter and also a cook which we never saw but heard. The receptionist hardly spoke English and was coughing and sick. The dinner menu had limited choice and tasteless and poorly prepped. The breakfast was not a buffet but enough cheese and eggs with one choice of bread. The coffee was like a mud, no milk and tea choices were limited to three with no black tea. ||The seating area were full of awards on the glass shelves where the owner won prizes for cockfighting. Later when we walked the grounds, we saw the cages and the roosters some with loud and ready to fight. The pool is not maintained at all and I wouldn't recommend anyone to swim since it had algae. The grass area around the pool was nice but the tables and chairs were dusty and we were not able to sit on them. There are three alpacas in a protected area which appealed us since it was our first close encounter with them after Lima.||The resort seemed like it has seen good days but we do not recommend anyone to stay there. It does not have ambiance at all. We felt like we were in The Stanley Hotel where The Shining was filmed. Hacienda but no residents and doesn't look like...
