HOTEL HACIENDA SAN JUAN RESORT — Hotel in San Juan Bautista

We paid for a room with free cancellation, but the hotel threatened to cancel our booking unless we sent a 50% non- refundable deposit. When we arrived, the hotel was more expensive than the price given when booking.

To use a pool towel, they wanted to keep hold of our passports for the whole duration (despite them having already received around 1800PEN for our stay, and having already taken photocopies of our passports!).

Lots of smelly dirt came out of the hot tub when turned on; it hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time (if ever!). There was no drinking water for the room, and reception ignored us when we tried to ask them for water at night time.

Staff were rude and would quite often just turn their backs and walk away whilst we were talking. None of them could speak any English, and they were unwilling to use our translation app to help (with the exception of the lovely porter).

The only option for food was a buffet, and they charged us more than they were charging day guests (520 Soles for the 2 of us for lunch and dinner), we asked if we could order off the normal menu and were told no. We went to reception to ask if we could eat anywhere else and were told we could order at the restaurant off the menu; we were sat down by a waiter and then waited for 45 minutes while everyone ignored us, until we decided to leave.

The buffet breakfast was probably the worst we had while travelling Peru.

The surrounding area was poor and desolute; you don't want to walk around outside of the hotel, and you won't find much in walking distance.

I would Not recommend Hacienda San Juan Resort. The staff there is extremely rude and UNaccomodating! We were looking for a place to have an early dinner after spending some time in Paracas and Huacachina. We decided to go to Hacienda San Juan because we were told they offer day pool passes. We thought perfect, have an early dinner, spend some time by the pool and head back to Lima later in the evening to avoid all the traffic. ||The young man who sold us the pool day passes was rude his whole demeanor was unwelcoming. Our waiter was a bit clueless and forgetful and the young lady at the front desk was also rude. When it was time to get in the pool we asked for towels, and we were denied the towels because we were not guest to the Hacienda! It’s not like we were asking for bathing suits! How can they sell us pool passes and deny us the use of towels? How can that be a policy? The young man who sold us the pool passes never disclosed that we were not going to be able to use the towels or else I believe we wouldn’t have bought the pool passes. ||We had to go to the front desk and ask to speak to a supervisor in order for us to be accommodated. It was an uncomfortable experience all in all.
