In A Nutshell:

-Wow, Hacienda Hererra was such a great place to stay while in the Peruvian Amazon. -I blindly picked this place due to it's semi-remote location & basic bungalows to ensure we would have an intimate visit surrounded by nature. -The price was fair & you can book your stay w/ out paying using Hotels.com. -They like to communicate by Whatsapp, so you can start asking questions i.e. things to do, amenities, etc.. before arriving. -They will pick you up from Puerto Maldonado airport free of charge & drop you off at the main office/house to pay (if you reserved w/out paying) & also firm up & pay for all your activities. -From there you will take a boat to the Hacienda Herrera lodge, the ride takes about 15 minutes. -Once you arrive, you'll be greeted by a member of their staff where they will walk you to your bungalow to drop your things off. -You'll then be escorted to the main house to check-in, get oriented of the property & review your daily schedule of activities. -The main house is where breakfast, lunch & dinner are served (which all meals are included during your stay). -You can also purchase wine (15 soles/glass) or a bottle of beer for (15 soles). -The two young chefs are extremely skilled in the kitchen as each meal is very delicious. -If you bring ramen as we did, they will gladly cook it for you & even add in some huevos (eggs) if you request it. -The paid activities were all very good. -The Lake Sandoval hike/canoe took about 5 hours & I was able to see Giant River Otters, Neotropical Otters, Brown Agouti, Red Howler Monkeys, Brown Capuchin Monkeys, White Fronted Capuchins, a Cocol Heron, a Snake Bird eating a snake, Macaws & Stinkbirds. -The piranha fishing was also worth it & you get to fish in a private lake where catching them was challenging, but doable. -The Shihuahuaco Trail is located on the property & you'll learn about the various vegetation, spot creatures & get bit by alot of mosquitos. -The entire staff was extremely nice, organized & knowledgeable shout out to Cris!! -I loved the individual bungalows b/c each one is surrounded by nature & the calming sounds of everything around you. -This is the perfect place to unwind, relax & recharge. -I love the Swiss Family Robinson feel of staying here. -The had eco-friendly details like relying on solar power, the cold showers, organic fruits/vegetabels & rechargeable flashlights. -Other things you might helpful are that they have a strong wifi in the main house, spotty wifi in the bungalows, 24/7 hot coffee, hot drinking water & a 3rd party laundry service (30 soles) which will take a day to wash/return.

Overall, this place exceeded expectations & I would highly recommend staying here. I want to...

We had a great time from the very beginning – even the booking process via email was smooth and personal. Communication was clear, helpful, and friendly, which made everything easy and stress-free.||From the moment we were picked up at the airport until we were dropped off again, everything was perfectly organized. We spent 3 nights in the Sotobosque bungalow at the beginning of May. It was clean, spacious, and came with a lovely terrace – perfect for relaxing. We were a bit concerned about mosquitoes, but there were hardly any around the lodge – only a few during the night walk.||The full-board meals were excellent, and the kitchen deserves special praise. Every dish was tasty and freshly prepared (one by us as we did the cooking class :D).||There are many activities to choose from, and all the ones we did were fantastic – and felt almost private. Our guide Edson was outstanding: incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and passionate about nature. Highlights of our stay included the tree canopy walk, piranha fishing (including the beautiful sunset!), the Lake Sandoval tour, and the parrot clay lick.||All of the staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome throughout our stay. This was an unforgettable experience, and we would...

I wanna thank the staff for their effort to accommodate me and my family on Christmas holidays, specially Lauri who was always punctual and precise, our guide Edson and the kitchen staff - all of them very professional. Our rooms were excellent, and the environment: a tropical dream. We really enjoyed the food which they accommodated to our requirements, fresh and local like we expected. I recommend booking the activities, we did kayak in the river, the cacao experience and more adventures in Lake Sandoval, sunsets in the river and visiting the parakeets. It's a family owned business and their efforts to make us feel welcomed exceed our expectations, they were able to manage delays or inevitable inconveniences very well, which I really appreciated. The only thing I would recommend improving is the lightning in the rooms and the bathroom, there's only one white light hanging from a tall ceiling and it gets really hard to see, specially in the bathroom. Make it warm and at sight altitude to make it more relaxing and comfy. Thanks a lot and...

Hacienda Herrera is a magical place. I stayed at the lodge for 10 days as part of my graduate course. Waking up early each morning to run up to the second floor of the main hall was always exciting. There was no telling what wondrous new discoveries were waiting through binoculars. Colorful trogons and motmots were accompanied by the music of oropendolas, house wrens, and noisy parakeets flying overhead. The staff were incredible. I booked a second leg of the trip and they made sure that I was safe and met my next guide smoothly. More than that, getting to know each member a little bit and even watching the Copa America together was really special. There's so much more to mention - their work in conservation and engaging local communities/schools in partnership with CECCOT is awesome. I'd recommend booking a few days to soak in the experience and to get to know the team!
