I booked here expecting peace and quiet on my first trip to Peru and arrived to the sound of the screeching power tools. The adjacent home, maybe 10 meters away is under construction. There would be no relaxing by the pool for me. I had travelled 13 hours to arrive next to a LOUD construction site. It was beyond rude and greedy of the hotel management to accept reservation during these days. I will give the staff credit for being exceptional - they were kind, understanding and professional. Probably the best hotel staff I have ever met. The room was nice except for moldy curtain/door on the bathroom. I also learned upon arrival that the restaurant is closed on Thursdays and the staff helped me order take-out. Disappointing not to know about restaurant closure in advance. The breakfast and dinner that I did have was very fresh and good. Again props the wonderful staff, and a huge thumbs down to the management for accepting reservations while loud construction is happening a few feet away. Don't you understand that people are traveling from thousands of miles away to relax? Clearly you don't care. I'll add that this hotel is part of a gated residential complex and the construction site is within the complex. It's really disappointing to travel from the city to somewhere you think is remote only to find heavy machinery and deafening power tools screeching during daylight hours. I give 5 stars for the staff and 0 stars...
Read moreThis is a really nice place to stay in Puerto Maldonado! It is not near the town and not particularly walkable so you will need to taxi to get water, snacks, cash. (NOTE: the local airport does not have a currency counter and I struggled to get the local currency in town so make sure you get cash in Lima or wherever you’re coming from) Due to circumstances, I didn’t have any cash when I landed to take a taxi to the property. The property did advertise an airport shuttle but that is just calling a $$ taxi, which is still helpful. Luckily, they did help me by paying the taxi driver in cash when I got there and charging my card. The property is very beautiful and has the occasional animals. I would highlight that there is a lot of still water around the property so the mosquitoes were pretty severe when I was here, despite covering myself in bug spray every day. (This is nothing against the hotel and more of a note to travelers.) This is a sustainable property so the hot water is limited and the food is all vegetarian and that actually did not take away from the experience at all! The food was INCREDIBLE, both breakfast and dinner! The dinners in particular were absolutely amazing and criminally affordable. If you have cash to go into town and get to the airport easily, I would say this is the best place to stay in...
Read moreThis was our first time staying here, and we didn’t really know what to expect. This place actually makes you feel like you’re in the jungle. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to help us at all times. Our balcony had a great view of the trees where we sat for hours watching the cutest monkeys jump around in the trees. We didn’t get to try the pool or yoga studio but walked by and it looked beautiful. They held our luggage for us when we had a tour the same day of our arrival, and went out of their way to give us breakfast even though we weren’t supposed to check in until early evening.||We had a mid morning flight to Cusco, and the kitchen chef/servers made us food when they were supposed to be on a break and packed it in containers for us to eat on our flight. I can’t say enough good things about the food. It was hands down the best food we’ve had thus far. If you go you must try the papas bravas amazònicas. Neither of us are vegetarian and we would absolutely come back for the food. They also made us fresh juices for each meal. We wished we could’ve stayed longer to try more. @hotel kapíevi please send me...
