Can‘t recommend at all! I felt extremely uncomfortable.
Everything is in one heap, in a tiny space. It has little to do with a garden hostel. Sleeping is impossible. From 3 a.m. onwards, at least five roosters are hooting on each side of the hostel. The neighboring buildings are only a few meters away, and the roosters are accordingly loud. Sounds lika a chicken farm .. There are also lots of barking dogs, loud children, and cats that often run past the rooms at night, meowing loudly. Never experienced something like this before. If you want some sleep and a bit of privacy, you shouldn't book here. The private room can't really be called that. There's nowhere to put anything in the room. It's just a bed and a fan. It's all homemade and completely open! The bathroom, just as open as everything else, isn't nice! There are plenty of cheap accommodations that are definitely more recommendable, where it's quieter, you can sleep, and you have privacy if you book a private room. I don't need luxury, but this wasn't acceptable. I left after one night instead of four. I got a refund for two of the three nights.
The transport is quite expensive, you should be aware of that beforehand. When I arrived at the port, I couldn't find the driver for ages. He waited quite far away outside the port, which meant I had to walk a long way with all my luggage. Since the toilets are only located inside the port and the journey takes over an hour, I had to walk all the way back and then get back to the tuk-tuk. Very annoying! The transfer from the port to the hostel costs the same with a stop at the Tarsier Sanctuary as without, so it's a lie to say I got a tour for free. I wanted to go straight to the hostel because I had a long journey, but that was only possible for the same price as with the tour.
I think it's a shame that lies (!!!) are being spread on Booking.com. I only shared my experience, and I think that should be respected (That's why I only give one star for service here!). I simply listed facts (no privacy, excessive noise, etc.). I don't need a luxury resort, but when I book a private room, I expect at least a minimal amount of privacy. I hope my review can help others. After leaving early, I found accommodation in Loboc, Loboc was wonderful. The area is great and I highly...
Read more10/10, would highly recommend. I will explain why:
Staying at the Lhoyjean hostel is single best thing you could do if you plan to go to Bohol. Lhoy and Jean are a authentic local couple that run the hostel with help from their family. They will do everything they can to make you feel part of it.
They offer picking you up from the port/ airport even if you arrive late, and will then make dinner for you at 11pm, because they care about you and want to make sure you have dinner before bed. Normally dinner is served at 19:00 and its delicious and filling. Jean will try to stuff you with rice as a filipino grandma would. They also make breakfast everyday. Doesnt matter if you get up at 07:00 or 11:00, breakfast you shall have. There is also free water, wifi, and coffee, tea, and noodles, and laundry, scooter rental(!), for a low price.
The hostel is made of excellently made (by Lhoy) cosy strawhuts with proper mosquito nets inside. The hostel is in a countryside area so expect fresh air, animal sounds, and a relaxed vibe. They also know the island really well as they are from there. They know all the well known places and when to go, but also some lesser known places where almost no tourist will be.
Lhoy even offers to take you on a "secret" hike up the hill next to his home village. There you have the best view with no one else around and he will tell you about the area, his life, and how it is to live on the Phillipines. Unique local experience.
Go here, you wont be disappointed!!!
Greetings, Aris...
Read moreImmediately when we arrived we fell in love with the place, as well as with the hosts. The hosts Jean, Lolhoy and family live on the property. The guests stay in the chalets built by Lolhoy himself. The chalets are constructed from locally sourced bamboo, and are solar powered -- and off grid experience. It feels like glamping, but much better as it's authentic. The garden's vegetation and flora serve as a source of food and income that feed the habitants throughout the yearly seasons. Lolhoy also built a fish pond in the rear yard where they farm tilapia fish for consumption and for merchandize. When it gets dark outside the village goes to sleep (and that's like 7 pm), and in the sunrise morning hours the roosters will make sure to wake you. We enjoyed the organic, non-fertilized, domestically harvested rice, cocoa beans, coconut milk and flesh, and other fruits and veggies that is farmed by the host. We also had eggs from the neighbor's chicken. #lifestyle Cherry on the pie, on top of all that are the wonderful hosts, unlike anything else that I've experienced (and can only be found on such a fabulous island as Bohol which has truly exceptional people). They were genuinely happy to make you feel at home, and we totally did feel at home. The world can use...
