There is luxury and peace in every direction you look!
The vibe and energy that you experience at the Marqis is truly worldclass! My Fiance and I enjoyed a brief getaway here for our anniversary and it was nothing short of spectacular! I have spent 20 years in the hospitality industry, so i hold a much higher expectation than some for what i see, taste and feel in a venue.
Marqis showed up in every manner!
The staff were extremely attentive to all of our needs and made sure we were never without. Normally i would say that that is a standard here in the Philippines (which it is) however, the staff here were beyond what i have experienced in every manner. Their table ettiquette along with dining and drink service were on par with the best of them. They maintained a flawless (M.A.L.T) as we say in the industry... Or mood, atmosphere, lighting and temperature throughout our entire experience.
Even if you are thinking of going up there for just the dinner service, then you are on the right path! The food was supurb and flavours were acutely expressed in ways that i havent felt here in the islands lately at all.
Both the upper and lower pool and spa areas were absoutely immaculate and allowed us both fun and adventure with the larger pool below that has a waterslide and hot tub next to a lovely stone oven and bar... and the upper pool gave us complete peace and seperation from all elements of distraction.
The villa we stayed in really allowed us to stretch out and let go for a night. The giant showers with rain heads and steaming hot water was such a surreal treat for my fiance as we have been backpacking for so long.
Out side on the ledge overlooking the entire island and the Bohol Sea is a huge hot tub that offered both of us room to lay back and enjoy some serious romantic time together under the stars with complete privacy and sexy energy.
Dinner, lunch and breakfast were all excuisit. Chaf came out to personally speak with each of us on our needs and made sure each meal matched our love and liking.
The views from the hilltop are flawless in every direction and we really enjoyed watching the people and culture of the hill top locals walking thier goats down the mountain or harvesting crops.. Such a surreal setting for anyone to get away and relax. Most of the time on vacation we try to avoid rain and weather.. However.. even in the rain this resort holds some purity. THe weather came through for a brief time and allwoed us to see the rainfall and sun rays beam across the valleys and mountains in ways we have never seen before. It also brought a cool breeze right through the resort and we loved that for dinner on overlooking the sea. Amazing time!
I have so much more to say, but will refrain as im building a episode on this for our youtube discussing it all in detail... My wife and i thank everyone at the Marqis for a Legendary expereince in ever manner possible.
You really have to see this place to understand...
Read moreThis hotel is to flee. We had a really bad experience. We were woken up every morning at 7:30am by the noise of the constructions of the new cottages. Every time we ordered something at the restaurant, we had to wait 45 minutes, even for two simple pancakes, and when the order finally arrived (after claiming it again), it was cold or not correctly cooked. The food is expensive, but we didn’t really other choice than to eat at the restaurant of the hotel because it is very isolated from everything, and the road to go to the « center » very damaged. I gave my laundry to the laundry service of the hotel, I should have it back the next day, and two days after I still didn’t have it so I claimed for my laundry, and I have it back wet and damaged (bleaching), and for a very expensive price for the Philippines. The evacuation of the shower was blocked, with very bad smell (the room was supposed to be new), we didn’t have any soap when we arrived, we had to claim for it. The massage was painful and in an opened area where we could be seen by all the clients. The person who did the massage was calling on her phone at the same time. In this hotel, we have to pay for every little thing, including the water. We paid the room at the most expensive rate (7500 PHP/day), and regarding all the problems we had during our holidays, we decided to leave the hotel earlier. Normally, we had a little reduction for the price of our room, and we should pay 7000 PHP/day. But because we left earlier, the employees of the hotel said we had to pay 7500 PHP/day, and we accepted it. But this wasn’t sufficient for the owner of the hotel, an English man, who is absolutely odious and mean. After announcing our decision, he harassed us and threatened us to call the police for several hours, if we leave the hotel earlier without paying for the nights that we won’t spend in the hotel. I totally do not recommend this place, our stay was...
Read moreBeautiful place, terrible service.
We came here because of a recommendation from a friend. “One of the best sunsets in Bohol” they said and they were right. The restaurant and pool area are beautiful. A really stunning view. We decided to have dinner and the food was a bit on the expensive side but very good.
The thing that let this place down was the service. Staff were cheerful and friendly but we had the following issues:
We asked if we could swim and they said “yes, go ahead”. They didn’t inform us until the bill came at the end of the evening that there is a charge for using the pool. Fine to have a charge but you need to inform customers in advance rather than just add it on to an already high food & drinks bill at the end of the night.
There was only one other table in the restaurant but it was difficult to attract anyone’s attention. Whenever we wanted something (drinks, bill etc) I had to get up and find a member of staff rather than have them come to us. It seemed that all staff were more engaged in their phones than in the few customers they had.
We asked our server about the tuna as on the menu there is no information other than “grilled tuna”. When we asked what it is served with he said “chips or rice” so we went for chips. When the tuna came out it was covered in chopped up olives, raw onion, tomato, and mango. My girlfriend doesn’t like olives, onion, or tomatoes so we scrapped this all off. If the server had told us how it was served we would have either ordered something else or asked for it without the topping. The fish tasted of the onion topping which spoiled what would have otherwise been a nice piece of fish.
If not for the service I’d have probably stayed here on my next trip to Bohol. It’s a bit isolated as was mentioned in other reviews, but you get an incredible view and a beautiful hotel. Ideally if you stay here I’d recommend having your...
