An amazing rare find in the Philippines..Las Flores Country & Beachside Hotel was such a welcoming surprise. It was like stepping into an exquisite Victorian home with a British charm, century pieces of furniture and airy high ceilings. Their outdoor dining area had a spectacular view of the shimmering sea with islands bordering the horizon.
The Victorian theme continued with authentic furnishings and fixtures in the room and private bathroom, which were extremely spacious, well maintained and clean. The added bonus was the separate balcony that faced the breath taking million dollar view of the sea.
The owners, Virgie and Ian are a lovely couple. They were hospitable, a super host, .making extra efforts to make us feel at home. Virgie even went out her way to personally prepare a very early light breakfast including French press coffee and homemade biscuits to suit our morning schedule since her staff started at a later time.
I also appreciated connecting with the couple and learning about their challenges and hardships of building their hotel and their future dreams for themselves and their little daughter.
This was a pleasant and restful stopover to unwind from traveling around and also from the city congestion. It was enough to breathe in fresh air, relax on their hammock, take in the beachfront view and treat ourselves to Australian rib eye steak and their famous barbecue ribs. Just as the reviews, they were both absolutely delicious!
For those who are wanting a mini break from the typical resorts or the city hotels and are looking for comforts of home while having beachfront views to chill or if anyone is considering building a home or hotel in the Philippines, I strongly suggest staying at Las Flores and meeting this...
Read moreThere is a very well kept secret in Catmon, Cebu, known as the Las Flores resort. We stayed there for four weekends during our visit to Cebu in June of this year and although I have been to this particular area of the Philippines many times in the past I have never been introduced to this wonderful establishment. It does sit a little back from the road at a slight angle but this only adds to the effect of privacy in the beautifully kept lawn and grounds. The house itself is a European style building with a large entryway and staircase leading up to most of the rooms. Air conditioning is present through all of the house with individual thermostats in each room. There is an ample sitting area with a Bar and many couches and chairs. TV is also in the main living room and in each of the guestrooms, the dining veranda is at the rear of the house and access is through any of several French window style doors. The menu is excellent and varied with both European and American favorites along with standard Filipino cuisine. I particularly recommend the fish and chips with salt and malt vinegar. The owner, Virginia, sometimes spends time back in her home in Norwich, England but can be found most of the season in Cebu. You may reach her directly at her email address which is mail@lasflorescebu.com or vgillies@yahoo.com. They can also be reached by telephone at 63 32 4309390. Truly the best kept secret in Cebu. We'll be...
