To get to Maquinit Hot Springs, we had to travel through 5 or so kilometers of very bumpy rough dirt road. When we got to the parking lot of the hot springs, it was full of tourist vans. We found out later that the owner of the hot springs believes that paving the road to the Hot Springs would cause the hot springs to lose its' heat. Huh? The hot springs, like all hot springs around the world, gets its' heat from volcanic vents that has water passing thru it. Maquinit Hot Springs is no exception despite what the owner believes. It was a revelation to learn that Coron has a volcano nearby. All four of us get in the 98°F saltwater pool. Ahh. I do believe this is my first time to experience a saltwater hot springs. It feels goood. My back muscles which were sore from yesterday's swimming felt relieved. We could all feel the salt on our bodies. All four of us are soaking in the therapeutic and soothing salt water. To add to the moment is a full yellow moon rising above the clouds. Ahh.
After about 10 minutes, the lifeguard informs us we need to get out of the pool and cool down. "Okay" we all answer in unison. We get out of the water leaving just our feet dipped in the pool. After about 10 minutes, our guide tells us that we can take a cold fresh water shower nearby and thereafter can go back in the pool. We all do so as fast as our bare feet walking thru the brown gravel can manage.
The showers which were only about 25 feet from where we were are such that the sprays are very fine which made the water feel more like rain than a bathroom shower. It is cool rather than cold and it gave us a refreshing cleansing feeling. We repeated this process about 3 times before...
Read moreImportant: the ticket is valid all day long, so you can enter multiple times during the same day showing the ticket at the front desk. There are 4 pools, the hotter are the small ones on top and there's a small one besides the big one which is less hot. Water is supposed to be between 38 and 41 degrees. Be careful because after a while being inside the hotsprings you can feel lightheaded. Stay hydrated and alternate being in and out. And have some fresh or mist shower also. We went there with a motorbike, first around 9am, then around 12.30pm after snorkeling at "7 Pecados" islands renting a small boat and guide (300php per person for 2h) which I strongly recommend as it's also really close to. The first time was still sunny and we were like 4-5 people only. There were some areas of the big pool which were shadowy. The second time there were more people but not too much, it was cloudy and a little bit rainy. If you go by motorbike you must know that the last 10min the road is dirty and rocky but it's doable with a motorbike, just don't rush it. You will see cashew nut trees along the way, some of the with cashew nut+fruit both in the trees and on the floor. The yellow fruity part is edible, the red is sour but the water coming from it taste actually good. Open one and check the smell at least as it's a good and...
