Dive: 1300/ 1 fun dive. I dived with Jerome and he was really amazing 👏 equipment is good. I did chapel, west rock and largahan, it was amazing 😍 apo island is known for its dive spots and I was not disappointed!
Restaurant: the food is really good and you get good size portions. It's also one of the only Restaurant on the island. All dish are 375 for walking guest and 300 if you stay there. Good view on the ocean but the sunset aren't the best.
Service: We were informed that the kitchen opens at 7am and last order at 630pm. When I came back from my dive (2pm) the cook wasn't here and I've had to wait 5pm to eat. I got some expired noodles cup (1 year expired, i was starving no choice) and the receptionist made me pay for the expired cup. It would be nice to know the REAL kitchen schedules, so we can plan ahead. We got some ice creams and when we opened it (we opened 3 different ice creams) they were not fresh at all. I think the freezer isnt working properly. If I can give an advice, bring snacks!!!!! Breakfast was included in our stay and we were leaving with the early boat (6am), we ordered breakfast the evening and they said they would leave it in a Tupperware at our door, and we got nothing. We got some cookies, they checked the basket to see if we have taken some more and hidden in the basket. It was my first time I got a service like this one...
Bathrooms: no hot water, there was a lizard on the wall in decomposition... very stinky
Room: modest, ok view, dirty bedsheets and pillows case, dirty floor. 2 outlets. No free wifi but you can buy wifi at the restaurant. I have SMART and it was working fine for me. No electricity between 10pm and 6am - charge your portable battery and phone during the day. The electricity and wifi situation wasn't an issue for me. Mosquitoes net that doesn't do the job because I was covered in bites
Overall: The locals are very friendly and always smiling. We visited the whole island and it was beautiful. There's no tourist and the vibe is amazing. For the lodge, the service (from the receptionist) isn't great. The room is ok if you're not a clean freak. If you just want to dive a day trip is enough. If you want to enjoy the island 2...
Read moreThe only good thing about this place is the vicinity to the sea turtles snorkeling & diving area.
The accommodation Our room was 2500pesos with 3 meals breakfast, lunch and dinner. We don't expect luxury on a remote island but cleaning is common sense. The room looks like it hasn't received a proper cleaning since the world war 2. It's advised to wear slippers to avoid any foot fungus. In the bathroom you can visit The Spiders Sanctuary where you can see multiple generations of dead and alive spiders being spawned, spiders fights and 4 different species. I guess the Spider Sanctuary is necessary as a protection against the mosquitoes and flyes. Our room offered a refreshing view over the natives backyard where they store the garbage and the things they don't need anymore. At 6am we woke up by the natives playing Rihanna only two songs. It lasted only 2 songs... too bad, I kinda liked Rihanna and Drake. It was probably the alarm set at 6 am on loudspeakers.
The restaurant It's ok and it offers view to the sea, the staff is friendly. The meals included in the price of the room: Breakfast (two eggs, a thin slice of canned ham, two and a half slices of bread), lunch and dinner (a main meal - fish and rice, stew with rice, etc). The food is good, I recommend fish and fries, apo island fish. The drinks are paid separately. Drinking water refill is 20 pesos per liter and a glass of water 5 pesos. My advice Snorkeling and diving are really extraordinary, you don't want to miss swimming with the turtles. If you have to stay overnight, try Mario's Homestay. But it's a better choice to stay on the mainland, come to the island in the morning and leave before sunset(3-6PM) The price for the boat from Malatapay to Apo Island is 580 pesos two ways and 300 pesos one way. As I said, we are not luxury seeking people, but cleaning is common sense. I hope this review helps you making better choices than me and maybe it helps the owners improve. The island has so much unused potential. I am giving it two stars because the restaurant was ok and the turtles...
Read moreI can’t understand all this negative reviews! My girlfriend and I stayed there for 5 nights and loved the place. Yes, it is not a five-star-resort but I think you get a lot for cheap money here.
The room was clean and spacious, only the Moskito-net was a little bit too tight (but still working normally). Expect to shower with a bucket and (as everywhere else) to wake up by ‘singing’ roosters. I loved the architecture of this place, it felt really comfy, like a little Greek village with many little stairs leading up to the rooms. Prices of the rooms vary on weather you’ll go diving or not.
Staff was always friendly and helping us with everything we needed. Sometimes it could get a little chaotic and you had to ask twice for little things but that’s nothing major.
Though quality and size of the meals varied a little from day to day, you could always find something delicious! spaghetti and pizza were ‘filipino-style-sweet’ but if you can live some days without it you’ll be fine! I actually liked the food better than in many other parts of the southern Philippines!
...the island is so amazing for snorkeling (my favorite spot was largahan! you can swim there from the rock on the right or from ‘apo island resort’) and also for diving (chapel was stunning, but all the spots are great!) For us it was one of the best experiences of our 2 months Philippines trip, Liberty...
