On our way to Davao from Cagayan de Oro, Cesar and Helen brought us to watch the Interactive Bird Show in Malagos Garden Resort - a 12 hectare park located in the Baguio District of Davao City that is less than an hour away from the city proper. The bird show has been a regular Sunday attraction here for almost six years now. Malagos Garden Resort is owned and developed by the Puentespina family of Davao.

Dr. Roberto "Bo" Puentespina talks about eagles. This eagle flew freely and gracefully from the back then landed on his arm without any restraint tied into it.

Dr. Bo showing the audience an owl.

A cockatoo riding a miniature scooter.

One of the two Parrots dunks its basketball in the ring. This parrot basketball game generated loud cheers from the audience as they cheered for the Parrot they want to win.

Philippine hawks, Lawin, showing how quickly and easily they grab food left for them by their trainer on a stainless platter.

After the show was a meet and greet with the cast of birds - eagles not included.

This miniature horse was also there to promote another show in Malagos Garden Resort called the Animal Encounter Show.

Ostrich Salpicao. This yummy and healthy meal is very tender and and tastes just like beef. Looks like beef too.

A Kalesa ride for a quick tour of the park.

One of the domes in the park - some for plants, some for birds, butterflies, etc.

Bignay berries that they themselves make into their very own Malagos Bignay Wine.

"Allow me to bloom" is the catch phrase of their Waling-waling Forest.

For 500 pesos you will plant a Waling-waling in a designated tree then tag it with your name. Your name will also be written on a name plate and placed in one of the registry pole above. I saw there the names of Noli de Castro, some foreign ambassadors, company presidents, governors, journalists, groups/associations and kind visitors of Malagos.

Unwind longer by staying in an air-conditioned cottage good for 4 to 10 persons (2,400 to 4,200 per room per night), stay in a dormitory type air conditioned room that can house 50 persons (350 per person per night) or rent tents and go on overnight camping (300 per person).

You can also enjoy their swimming pool, open air children's playground, billiards, table tennis, badminton, volleyball and join any of the educational modules and nature adventure packages there. They also accepts seminar and...

Date of visit 2024 Aug 22 to 24. Room for 2 people. Overall 8.687. Location 7. Air conditioning / Ventilation 9. Hot water / Water flow 9. Room, Hotel Amenities and other services 7. Acoustics / Noise 9. Ambience 10. Cleanliness 8.5. Service 10.

Location: The location is far away from Davao city, about 1.5 hours taxi ride away from the airport. It is difficult to book a 6 seater car ride back to Davao city, much easier to book 2 X 4 seater car ride back.

Air Conditioning: There was window fan coil unit (air conditioning), and there are windows and mosquito nets to keep insects and mosquitoes out.

Water: There is hot water.

Room, Hotel Amenities and other services: Big and spacious room and unlimited water refills (cold, normal, hot). Walking from place to place is guaranteed, to feel the closeness of mother nature. The resort also provides shuttle and van services to fetch the guests and baggage to and fro. The check-in hall is large and welcoming, however it would be better if there are seats to accommodate guests who are checking in, out and waiting for taxis. The open grass area for Falconry show is large and spacious to enjoy the raptor flight show, however it would be better if there are seats to accommodate the guests.

Acoustics / Noise: The sound proofing of the room is okay. It is quiet and tranquil in this natural garden resort, away from vehicle noises. My wife heard the neighbouring guest's children screaming, but I suppose acoustics can't cancel out screaming no matter which hotel / resort you go.

Ambience: This is a great place to stay away from the city and close to mother nature and there is a long river stream just behind the resort lodging. There are animals, birds, butterflies, koi pond, bird feeding, animal feeding, koi feeding, bird watching, malagos bird show, falconry show, horse riding, etc.

Cleanliness: The room looks more natural, plain and homey, rather than modern, colourful and luxurious. I did not detect any roaches throughout the stay.

Service: The staff was very friendly, and would frequently check on our wellbeing and keep us informed of the key activities for the day. Ferdinand was a cheery and friendly person, who held numerous conversations with us and provided us with tips to...

I just want to express my profound disappointment regarding an incident that occurred at your resort today, July 20, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM. My group of 18 individuals, including 5 senior citizens and a 3-year-old child, traveled all the way from Manila specifically to visit your renowned chocolate facility and to have dinner at your restaurant. Upon our arrival, we proceeded to purchase chocolate products without any issue. However, when we attempted to enter the restaurant area, a lady guard informed us that we needed to pay an entrance fee for a day tour. This was the first point of frustration, as the reception staff, whom we had interacted with upon entering, failed to inform us of this requirement. Furthermore, I noted a concerning lack of a security guard at the main entrance during our initial entry. I then personally went back to the reception to inquire about purchasing tickets. To my dismay, the receptionist asked if we had a reservation and informed me that the restaurant would be closing at 5:00 PM. Given that it was already 4:30 PM and we were a large group, this left us with virtually no time to dine, let alone enjoy the facilities we had intended to visit. Out of sheer frustration and hunger after our flight, I expressed my dismay to the staff, questioning why this crucial information was not communicated to us earlier, which would have allowed us to make alternative arrangements. Subsequently, I finally saw a security guard at the front entrance and confronted him about why we were not informed of the entrance fee upon our arrival. His dismissive response, stating he "didn't see us," was frankly unbelievable and unacceptable, especially considering we were a group of 18 people. The lack of clear communication, inconsistent information from staff, and the apparent inattentiveness of your security personnel resulted in a wasted trip and a thoroughly unpleasant experience for my entire group. We were left with no choice but to leave your resort and seek an alternative dining establishment. I urge you to take immediate action to address...

Malagos Garden Resort: A Wholesome Family Day Trip Our family had a great time at Malagos Garden Resort. We availed the ₱849/head buffet lunch + tour package, and honestly, that felt sulit for the full experience. There’s so much to explore — one full day isn’t enough. The kids loved the papier-mâché animal painting activity, which was a hands-on creative outlet that kept them focused and happy. They also got to feed the koi fish, which added a relaxing, nature-filled pause to the day. One highlight was seeing a rare white carabao — a beautiful animal that added to the uniqueness of the visit. Simple moments like this gave the trip an authentic, rural charm that’s hard to find elsewhere. The buffet lunch was satisfying with a wide selection. Highlights included: • Grilled tuna belly with lemon butter sauce – soft and flavorful • Seafood java rice – well-seasoned and great with the grilled dishes • Ginataang kalabasa with sitaw – creamy and comforting • Boiled tilapia with dipping sauces – clean, healthy option • Barbecue and sauces – ran out quickly, which says a lot! • A colorful salad and fruit station • Filipino kakanin like sapin-sapin, kutsinta, and ube-based treats • Mini chocolate cupcakes – cute and rich enough to satisfy a sweet tooth • And of course, the ginataang halo-halo pot was a warm and hearty closer The place had a rustic, charming vibe and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. There’s a good mix of learning, fun, nature, and food, making it a perfect spot for families with young kids. We’ll definitely return — maybe next time, we’ll stay overnight to see and do more.

Upon arrival you will be greeted with a smile and the manager is very helpful and she also see always checks the guest whenever she sees them. The entire area is beautiful and i really love being surrounded with nature, you can hear the birds, lots of big koi on the pond too.
