Note: This is a provincial hotel/resort. If you are visiting the province, you should expect things to be different than Metro Manila or another metropolitan area.||||Another Note: I stayed in an air-conditioned room on this property for 6 months.||||You seriously won't find a more friendly, accommodating, or trustworthy staff in the Lucena area. There is a restaurant on-site, which is very convenient, and the restaurant staff are the absolute best! (Their Chami (sweet/spicy) is my favorite.) This is a pretty sprawling resort and you can get rooms based on what room features you are looking for. You can get extra large (un-air conditioned) family/group rooms or smaller air-conditioned rooms good for two. Rooms are also available with hot water (upon request). ||||The beds are a bit thin... so if you are expecting something Tempur-pedic, you're going to be disappointed. But, as I said, I stayed here for six months and didn't develop any back problems. (If you do, massages in Lucena are about $5-10. haha) The air-conditioning works great and really makes sleeping nice as it cancels out some of the road noise. ||||There are 4 pools (I recommend the one with running water) that are free for hotel guests (or around $2, I think, for non-guests.) The setting of these pools is beautiful as there are lots of huts and shaded areas. I enjoyed taking a hammock (duyan) up in the pool area and relaxing in the shade. There's a monkey and a couple exotic birds in this area as well. ||||You are within 1 Jeepney ride ($0.16 fare) of the Bayan (or city center) and 2 Jeepney rides to the SM City Lucena ($0.16 fare each leg of the trip.) It's really a great location... not too far from wherever you need to be, but not too close to the city center.||||Value is high because the rooms (even with air conditioning) are very inexpensive. You will see lizards. You will see spiders. After all, you're in a provincial area of a developing country. But this is a safe, friendly, and cheap place to get a good night's sleep. Enjoy the amazing spirit of the Filipino people, the awesome culture in the Southern Luzon region, and the...
Read moreMixed Feelings at Fresh Air Hotel: Good Room Service, Poor Staff Attitude
My recent stay at Fresh Air Hotel left me with very mixed feelings. While some aspects of the experience were positive, the attitude and unprofessionalism of a few staff members significantly detracted from our overall satisfaction.
On the positive side, the room service was notably excellent. The cleanliness and comfort of the room itself were also satisfactory. However, the significant downside is the poor attitude of key staff members. Several employees were noticeably arrogant, cold, and entirely unapproachable, making simple requests feel like a burden to them. Management must address the culture of contempt shown toward paying guests. They seemed generally unwilling to help and lacked basic warmth, which is essential in the hospitality industry.
The most upsetting incident involved an unprompted and offensive interaction regarding our stay extension. Two of my companions were told that we would need to pay for an additional two days, delivered in a tone that heavily implied a doubt in our financial capability to afford the stay. This was not only highly unprofessional and insulting but also a completely inappropriate way to speak to a paying guest. It made us feel judged and unwelcome.
While the hotel has a good operational area with its room service, the management urgently needs to address the customer service training for their staff, especially concerning communication and basic respect. No guest should be made to feel belittled or questioned about their ability to pay for services rendered. Until the issues with staff attitude and basic guest respect are resolved, I would hesitate to recommend Fresh Air Hotel, as the excellent room service simply cannot outweigh the negative human interactions we...
Read moreGrowing up in Quezon, I have frequently visited Lucena Fresh Air Hotel for a swim with my friends. Through time, the hotel has gotten old and the management has not really taken serious efforts to maintain and improve the place. The hotel looked somber from the outside to the inside. ||The rooms where I've checked in recently looked very old and the rest rooms were dirty. I'm just glad that the sheets and towels they provide were clean. There are options for air-conditioned or fan rooms depending on your budget. ||There are no convenience stores nearby and the hotel's restaurant is only open up to a certain time so make sure that you bring bottled water, food and toiletries with you. ||For a city landmark like Fresh Air, I feel sad for its current status. I am looking forward to big improvements in this resort......
