my wife and i stayed here for a couple of days, partly because we coudlnt book a room online in kalibo and we wanted to go to the ati-atihan festival. we had just spent three days in boracay by that time but wanted to stay on mainland aklan for the festivities. we were not kiteboarders who i believe are its natural clientele but we nevertheless, appreciated the basic hut accomodations so close to the water. we also appreciated seeing all the kiteboarders all around us and enjoyed our walk along the long stretch of beach alone by ourselves. the staff was helpful with our requests and gave good directions on how to catch the public transport into and from kalibo. they served us with a great breakfast and got some good wine in the evening as well. we also shared good conversations with the owners about their experiences in the country. met a nice sweet french lady who shared her newfound love for the country and looked forward to years of living in the philippines. the negative is it can get of scary for non-kiteboarders to hear the strong winds buzzing all around our hut in the darkness of the night. we actually thought we were in the midst of a storm only to find it was normal for the time of the year.please also understand that accomodations are quite basic--no tv for example..also, the owners wanted to emphasize that this resort is not located in the island of boracay but is actually in caticlan, across from boracay--which we knew and understood when we booked our...
Read moreStayed here to take lessons on kiteboarding. Very small and cozy and almost like your home. It’s not a hotel so there is no concierge service or daily room make up. But this place has awesome staff, very friendly, and they just make you whatever the meals that they are cooking and you just say you are hungry! I stayed in a room with aircon and tv and it was very comfortable and big for one person. This is located in union beach which is about 20min tricycle ride from Caticlan airpor. If you want to go over to Boracay, all you have to do is just to go to the ferry port and it will take about 15min (but from boracay port to station 1, 2, 3 of boracay where the main activities are - it will take about 30 min or more due to lots of traffic). Anyways back to Mangoriders, I highly recommend someone who just wants to kiteboarding and just kick...
Read moreI stayed here after being stuck in Caticlan due to ferry being cancelled because of Typhoon Ursula. The beach cottages were lovely and clean, comfortable and in a very quiet area. Tragically the Typhoon had a devastating effect taking a direct hit and I was woken to the sound of roof being ripped off my cottage. Immediately the staff were grabbing me, my suitcase and rushing me to the main building putting themselves before me. For 12 hrs we are sheltered in the concrete building watching the Typhoon flatten the area. I can’t praise the staff enough, in the middle of chaos the staff were making us carbonara for lunch, themselves not knowing whether their own homes still standing. I really hope they can rebuild and I highly recommend this lovely homely accommodation at amazing value. Thank you everyone-you...
