It's not a bad resort, but foreign travellers may not find the facilities they expect. For me, there needs to be good coffee, not instant 'three in one', the room clean, the bed needs to be comfortable, the airconditioning decent, in-room tea and coffee making facilities and preferably a fridge, and the customer service good.||To give Lorelai its due, it's not all bad.The coffee is good, so that's a plus, but a bit mean to be asking more money if one wants an extra cup at breakfast (you actually get a flask with two small cups of coffee, but many Europeans are used to wanting more); I'm not used to this. The bed is fine, and the air conditioning fine too.||I was quite surprised that there was no kettle in the room; apparently, one can order drinks, but it's not the same. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting a hot drink when I wake up. Many years ago I would take a travel kettle when on holiday, but I thought those days were long gone... not here!||But the worst price gouging is with drinking water. Drinking water (whether it is filtered or bottled) is NOT a luxury since no one wants to get ill whilst on holiday, and apparently a corkage fee would have to be paid if water was purchased externally. Not to be able to get drinking water included (see photo), whether it be from a bottle or even on request, is to my mind just price gouging which I object to, and although the accommodation price may be lower than other hotels, overall other places may not work out cheaper once one has added the extras that really are essentials.||At the very least, if the notice was worded more thoughtfully it would be less likely to annoy. If it said something on the lines of 'Lorelai is a low cost resort, so certain items such as bottled water are charged extra, but feel free to bring your own water in, or there is a drinks package that includes this'. ||The sad thing is that I regularly stay at Samal, but I know one resort that won't be on my list, and all for the sake of not providing water which would cost a maximum of 20...
Read moreIf you are a foreigner, maybe your first place to go on Samal. Every sunday theres a foreigner meeting, all of them are very friendly and hostpitable. The Hotel itself is good. Small rooms (i could not walk around the bed, only 20 cm space/gap till the wall). Funny: A high quality Black&Decker Fan (very silent! Good for the whole night), but no fitting electric plug. The front desk support us by a adaptor. Theres also Aircon, but you don't need on Samal, because you have the fresh ocean breeze 20 mtr. in front. We did not use. We had a small, but lovely decorated Balcony, and a complete clean prepared room. There might also be a Poolbilliard, but it looks to be not usable at the time. Some things arround looking not finished, others look like waiting to be groomed. If you like selfies, the dotzend (or more?) Lorelei Characters around the place will fill your camera-memory faster than everytime else. They serve good chilled beer, and sometimes they serve very crusty Pizza, just ask if available. I think it is expensive to overnight, but the owner told us it is just compared to other resorts on Samal. There are two pools: A little one for the childs direct at the Tables, very usefull for the parents. And another small one close to the beach, the water was not so clear like the first one. There might be a third Pool below the child pool, but this one is empty and out of use. The House has an incredible apereance from the Seaside, you can make selfies by the Foodbridge. I did not find it (or could book it) on booking com or agoda or other booking portals, so it seems you need to request for it via Facebook. The Location on Google maps is 100% right, the location on Agoda map...
