I spent a lot of time at Pirates Cove between 2010 and 2012. Summer time here is great for boating and having a beer and bbq on the bay bay in Borongan. Rawis resort (just a restaurant) which is just around the corner from Pirates Cove serves a great spicy chicken and calamares in an oceanside setting. At high tide you can even row your boat from Pirates across to the bay bay and back again as the sun goes down and the moon rises. Nice! Surfing in summer typically involves travelling north or south to the more open breaks, although a paddle to the outer reef in the bay can be fun.||||Winter is surfing time, especially at Pirates Cove, a good wave but not for beginners when its big. The bay bay offers a good wave too after heaps of rain and it is not as gnarly as Pirates Cove. A lot of the local surfers ride this wave and are friendly to surf with. After heavy rains Pete organises a tubing day complete with a bar tender who floats down the river handing out endless beers. It's a fun experience that's for sure. ||||It's a nice place for a vacation but choose your time. If you are after surf then go during the winter and if you're after a hot tropical getaway choose the summer. Personally I enjoy both times of the year there. The locals around Borongan are real friendly too and worth...
Read moreThe American owner is M.I.A. His wife Rhodora and their daughter are left running the place. The rooms were clean and beautiful with ocean views. There is no restaurant there but they provide cooking utensils and a cooking area was at each room. They have 2 restaurants that deliver there. We cooked most of the time. Most true surfers are Nomads so not having a restaurant on site is no big deal. Rhodora was very helpful and answered all our questions. We went in December 2015 and the Left wasn't really breaking so she gave me insight to other surf areas and even arraigned for transportation to surf there. The pools are ocean water that is pumped from the reef in front of the resort. That is why the water is a little murky. My family and I had a great time and enjoyed the company of Rhodora and her daughter very much. Would I come back there? Of course I would because I am a Nomad surfer and not a spoon fed punk that has never worked for a living. I ate lobster, yellow fin tuna, red snapper and shrimp all week for pennies of what it cost here in the U.S. My family and I are looking forward to our next trip there. Just remember that if you are spoon fed from Daddy's money then this is not for you. Go stay at the Costa Pacifica in Baler and surf with the...
Read moreThis is a must see and a must stay place. Its like a cross between spongebobs place, a wild fantasy pirate hangout, and Gaudi's park Guell, mosaics on every surface. Located at the tip of a small peninsular which faces a volcanic lava surface beach. It is a perfect dream place for kids, with lots of things to do and swing and explore, even a pool table and of course a huge theme pool with mosaic clad sliders. This is one of samurs best kept secret, because there are no signs or directions to get here, only google and asking locals. Prices of rooms are still resonable, and a few rooms come complete kitchen fridge utensils, tv, arcon, even a microwave. We were blown away when we found this hidden gem. Sooo blown away that we had to put on our 3pointed hats and eyepatchs, and shoulder talking bird and peglegs, and spoke in pirate arrrrh talk......but really give this place a visit, keep this art...
