My wife and I arrived at the Golden Palace at 11pm,we were both very tired after a long days travel begining at 5am.We were offered the only room available called the silver room, a few minutes after entering the room there was a blackout which lasted about 5 minutes,i was in the middle of brushing my teeth.|| My wife went to have a shower and screamed as there was a huge cockroach lurking within the shower recess, the shower fittings were covered in soap scum, the soap provided was so small that it crumbled in my hand while having a shower, there was no toilet paper as well as no plug for the baisin, the airconditioner was was very noisy and turned itself off for no apparent reason...but wait there is more....I layed down on the bed to relax and my beloved wife gasped as there was a large insect on the pillow crawling behind my head, also there were little ghekos in the room doing there nocturnal activities, the TV did not work....After finally going to bed at about 4.30am all I could hear was traffic noise as our room was facing a main road, people chattering..||sirens, trucks and buses etc....Apart from that the breakfast was well presented and the shower was ok,i eventually got the cockroach and sent it to heaven...We aired our experience to management but we were not compensated in any way at all....We were charged 2,700 pesos for the night which was a lot in comparison to other places we stayed at and by the way were much nicer,So from our experience I guess it is up to the weary traveller to determine where not to stay......Happy...
Read moreFrom the reviews presently on tripadvisor, it seems the best hotel in Tagum is the Molave Hotel. However, that was filled up, so I stayed here. However, I found this hotel satisfactory,. We particulaly liked the free breakfast buffet in the morning, which in itself greatly raised our appreciation of this hotel. We were ready for problems with the water after reading the reviews here. It is true that there was only cold water in the shower when I showered at 5:30 in the morning. However, the hot water was turned on later on. There were no other problems with the water in our room. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom (I am an American), but they hospitably gave me some when I asked for it. || I had telephoned the hotel three days before and got very bad directions to the hotel. The hotel is not far from the northern outskirts of Tagum. The hotel is not on the main highway. When you are coming from Davao, turn at a Petron station after going through most of the city and the hotel is about a kilometer or so up that side road.|| Tagum is a prosperous city with an excellent main road through town. We went to dinner at a KFC in the Gesano mall, which is on the main road through town. || I had been told that there is nothing to see in Tagum, however we went to see the magnificent Catholic Christ the||King Cathedral, with the "world's largest rosary" behind the cathedral, for those interested.|| The front desk of the hotel sold a map of Tagum to us...
Read moreThe hotel is accessible if you're coming from Davao City. You can take a van or a bus and get off right at the entrance of the hotel. The room is okay. Thin pillows, sheets and mattresses are to be expected from a 2 star hotel. I like the service here because the staff members are friendly and helpful.||||During our stay, we informed the receptionist that the drain in the tub was not working. She immediately sent someone up to fix it. We also had trouble with the toilet flush not working. That problem was not fixed.||||The breakfast buffet was so-so. The receptionist said that the breakfast buffet starts at 6am. We got there at 6:30 but they were not done preparing all the food. Some entrees were cold and there were ants crawling in the cereal containers. ||||Don't expect to a good shower at this hotel. The water temperature doesn't always turn hot. Sometimes it stays cold for the whole duration of your shower, sometimes it's scalding all throughout. There was even a time I stepped out of the shower smelling like chlorine. This happened to my sister too.||||Though I wouldn't say I had a horrible experience, I can't say I enjoyed my stay there either.||We didn't get our money's worth; this coming from 4 people who had really low expectations. If someone would ask me how my stay was I'd probably just shrug and...
