So, I've stayed in all the Tagum City hotels (Big 8, Grand, Lakan, etc.) and while my hopes were high, the Pennyland was status quo. The Pennylane is hotel / casino. We were told it'd been open only a few months but it was still empty. I poked my head in the casino and only saw 1 or 2 other people the whole time we were there.||||The good thing this hotel had going for it is the restaurant. We really enjoyed the menu items and were happy with the quality. Plus, there was WiFi.||||The rest were disappointments. The rooms are overpriced. As I've complained elsewhere, it's hard for me to pay $50 for a tiny room in provincial Mindano while spacious rooms with a Jacuzzi just off The Strip are $39 all day long in Las Vegas. ||||There was no internet in the rooms, only in the restaurant. This is just unacceptable when you're paying this much for a hotel room. The hot water wouldn't function in the shower. It was hot, cold, hot, cold the whole time. We complained the first morning and were out all day. When we came back 12 hours later, they had done nothing. As most are aware, Philippine customer service is, more often than not, atrocious. Not even an, "I'm sorry." Another issue I had with the room were lack of outlets and the fact that it was not grounded. With all the electronics we travel with this is a big issue for me. Having only two pronged outlets in a brand new hotel is inexcusable. I called down for adapters, but they had none. A new hotel without 3 pronged outlets? I just don't understand it.||||One crazy thing about the parking is how crammed in they are. It's just ridiculous. You have to make a 5 point turn just to get out of a parking space. There are two rows of tire bumpers, when only 1 should be there. As is often the case in the PI, it's a matter of poor planning and thoughtlessness. Finally, there is no pool or fitness center. And I don't even want to speculate on how rigged the slot machines are.||||If you must stay in Tagum City, just pick the cheapest room in any of the hotels. They're all the same. The only exception may be the Executive Suite at the Big 8. It was nice, very nice. But, it was also P12,000 a night ($280+). That's simply ridiculous! I spent less than that for 1,241 square feet at the 5 star Raffles Makati.||||The customer service is painful to experience and if you read my other reviews, you'll see they bear this out. My hope is that the Pennylane will set itself apart with Amanpulo or Raffles style customer service. Do that and drop the price to $30 and I'll stay there for weeks.||||In then end, my experience is similar to other PI hotels I've stayed in -- over 200 nights in the last 6 years. 90% of the nights have been waaaay too expensive or just downright horrible. This one clearly...

Rooms are cozy and spacious, plus it has Mindanao's only David's Teahouse branch, as its F&B outlet. Staff is friendly and courteous. Located along Apokon Road, which leads to more towns in Davao del Norte and...
Read moreWas here for work and it was OK. There was wifi, hot water, bath tub, small refrigerator, small safe. There was also a table and chair I can use for work.
Unfortunately in the room I was staying in, I can hear the person occupying the next room. Presumably he could...
